    Hey everyone!

I got an interview on the DM&E! Things have been reallly rough lately and to top it all off, my girlfriend got laid off yesterday so we had to leave our apartment and move in with my parents. It's been terrible, but a ray of light shone through the gloom, I was offered and interview in Huron, SD!!! Fireball, I want to thank you for directing me to your railroad. Do you or anyone else have any tips for me? I need to knock this interview out of the park. I think the fact that I am driving 1600 miles to get there is a sign of how badly I want the job in the first place, so I'll be making the trek from Plattsburgh, NY out to SD in a few days. I look forward to hearing all of your suggestions!!!

    Thanks Guys!

I don't have any tips, Johnny ... but I wish you the best of luck. I'll be expecting to see that ball you hit out of the park come whizzing over my head out here in California! :)

    Good luck. A few suggestions:

    1. Go over interview questions several times and change them up. You should also record yourself doing it. You'll be amazed at how much better you will do when you see your mistakes during practice. There are many websites that have sample questions.

    2. Make a list of your strengths and weekness. They will probably ask what they are. Always turn your weeknesses into a positive. Example: "I sometimes get ahead of myself when working a project because I want to see the product of my work. But I have been working on that by forcing myself to take things one step at a time."

    3. Also, for an industrial job like this, safety is a major priority. Be prepared for questions asking about safety situations which you've had to deal with. And demonstrate how you are a safe worker.

Hopefully some others will chime in here.

Just be honest and remember safety first!Marlene is a great lady and easy to get along with.

Going to Huron eh? Sned some of our IC&E stuff back to us! THose rough riding DM&E jobs are not fun! I knew one guy who was going to work out of Huron. Its all TWC and mostly drag freight work but its a job right?

Good luck and drive safe! Gets boring once you get out on the great wide nothingness of SD!Oh and your welcome!

I can only offer you a "break a leg"! But as the others have said, be honest, straightforward and ready with an answer. You could be "Mr. Rulebook-Company Man" but unless you capture the interviewers interest, you'll have a hard time.
Give you an example of a question I got and my reply to it.
    Interviewer(female, manager/Human Resources)
    Q. "Will being away from home for 6 weeks have any negative effects on you or your family"?

    A. No, it wouldn't! If it was several years ago, it might, but all the major "parenting" things have been done.

Good luck! That's a heckuva drive, especially this time of year. Assuming you're taking I-90, some of the best scenery will be crossing the Mississippi River at LaCrosse, WI. Last half of Minnesota into South Dakota is pretty dull driving...

Congratulations! A couple years ago I was doing the train crew hiring for the ATN Railroad, and the best 'tip' I can give you is this....
Don't try and give an answer to a question you think is going to sound right. Questions are not designed to trip you up, just see what type of person you are, so just answer honestly and be yourself.
I think you'll do fine, and wish you the best of luck! :)
