W T Carter & Brother company store used as depot Company store in the company town of Camden, in the East Texas piney woods, on the Moscow, Camden & San Augustine RR. When the lumber-company-owned railroad's diesel needed an overhaul in 1965, it "leased" one of its parent company's old logging steamers to haul the daily train from the company town of Camden 7 miles to the SP interchange at Camden. If there were any passengers, an old wooden combine was placed on the end of the train, and when news got out that a steamer was in regular daily service, there WERE passengers. Including me. I skipped a day of university classes. Passengers bought tickets at this COMPANY STORE and waited for the train to be put together. In background left is old closed conventional depot building. I uploaded this picture to Railimages to use in this coming weekend's www.atlasrr.com "Sunday Night Foto Fun". I expect by this weekend to complete a model started 37 years ago, based (loosely!) on this structure, and wanted this pix to show the prototype.
Just happened on this beauty today..All I could do was sing the song to myself "Where Have All the Flowers Gone ?" ..'long time passing.Where have all the'......
Yes, some great railroad architecture has disappeared... along with many of the photos throughout this thread.
We recently went to Silverton, CO and I took this shot of the depot. Man they had a lot of snow this season! Ben
MKT depot, Denison, TX. Behind it & to the left is the former MKT office building, now a (gasp) flea market. Saving grace- the local model RR club has a layout depicting Ray Yard in the office building.
1. The baggage area of the depot 2. The agent's room in the same depot 3. The Roundhouse RR Club with the depot in the background 4. The former Amboy, MN (Minneapolis & St Louis) depot, now located at St James, MN
Coaling tower, Macon, GA Ex- Central of Georgia yard office, Albany, GA Depot in Lyons, GA, on the Georgia Central. Track is ex-SCL, ex-SAL. GCRR is using ex-SOU (and a couple of ex-SCL) U-boats as power.
And a little Presidential history related here...... Former SCL depot, Plains, GA. Once the campaign HQ for former President Jimmy Carter, it now serves as a museum of sorts. Line is now the Heart of Georgia (HOG) Railroad- train is the SAM Shortline (SAM is for Savannah, Americus & Montgomery, the predecessor road that built this line).
The former C&NW depot in St James, MN It is now a part of the "collective" and still in use by the Borg.
Norman, Oklahoma, November 30, 2007. ATSF Depot Guthrie, Oklahomah, Nov. 29, 2007. Railroad Museum of Oklahoma, Enid, OK, 11-29-07.
Love the Santa Fe stuff, Russ! This is an ex-SP station in Globe, AZ. I'm not sure, but I think it is now a commercial laundry:
Speaking of Southern Pacific, this one is in Wharton, Texas on the old "Macaroni" line. You can still see these old signs hiding under the new paint. The memory of Jim Crow still haunting the place.
