... to collect my research and experiences 3D printing as it pertains to modeling steam locomotives. I'd originally thought I would do this on one of the forums, as I've had good success doing so for photography subjects over at discuss.pixls.us, but I just wasn't as enamored with the mechanics of it either here or at the MRH forum. So, I spent a day figuring out Hugo, a static site generator, and picking a simple theme, then writing a couple of start-up posts, and ta-da, I'm blogging. Geesh. The first post (the one after the intro post) describes my initial meanderings to finally arrive at 3D printing as the savior of the modeling world, along with links to relevant resources I found along the way. Subsequent content is going to be specific to resin printing, OpenSCAD, HOn3, and DRG #168 as my first project, apologies if none of this scratches any of your itches. It's on my personal server, at https://glenn.pulpitrock.net/blog/ I very purposefully did not include any sort of comments tool, not wanting to turn blog admin into a hobby in itself. I'm willing to discuss whatever here, at MRH forum, or directly through some sort of PM...
I just finished a first post on building DRG #168's frame: https://glenn.pulpitrock.net/blog/posts/2022-05-26_168_frame/
I've been spending way too much time printing Tscale models lately. I've found that rotating the image 45 degrees off the build plate gives me much better prints. Tiny holes don't end up being filled and the reproduction seems more consistent than when I print flat. Here's screenshot for example. Since the bogies are about a quarter inch long and wide, even the smallest deviation makes a huge difference in the way the wheels fit. I've found rotating works best.
