Yes, I went thru Hamlet,N.C. today, and saw that the old station had many of the windows boarded up. Is the station undergoing a renovation?

P.S. Check the TB CSX forum... there were a lot of different locos in the "Hamlet" yard..)

The station is being moved across the tracks and then renovated if what I hear is correct. I certainly hope that this is so because THE station surely deserves to be preserved. In its grand days, long ago, it was an extrememly elegant station that the long gone SAL loved and took care of. Since the merger of the SAL and that other road the station has not gotten the attention that it deserves. This is too bad. Oh well, at least it has brighter days ahead of it.

Thanks for the shot. The station sure looks find of weird with all of the windows covered with ghetto glass. This is all in preparation for the move across the tracks. I sure hope it goes well.

The same company is moving the station that moved the light house on Cape Hatares and that company also moved an arch from the old Union Station here in Columbus last summer. It is a sight to see those guys at work. True pros, they will do just fine with the station.

Here's a shot of a westbound freight "crashing the diamonds" in front of the Hamlet station: [IMG]

It appears nothing has yet been done to move the station or prepare its foundation.
