    Hello all,
Can anyone provide any information on the interchanges that may exist between the IC(now CN???) with NS within the Southeastern United States? I am asking this in regards to a modeling possiblity and wondered if the IC also lets their units wander off line in certain situations as well? Any and all help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance, Justin May

I seen IC SD70's though Galesburg,IL the other day. Shoot the IC don't run within a hundred miles of galesburg. Closest I know is Chicago. Thats if you don't count the CN vehicle trains though here though. But these locomotives were on a grain train? Makes me scratch my head.

In Cedar Rapids, IA there is a Cargill facility and the largest Quaker Oats Plant. So we have a lot of grain hoppers and a lot of Corn Syrup tank cars coming through. In the yard around the Cargill Facility and Quaker Oats, there is a IC engine. I wasn't able to get close enough to see which kind. It looked like an EMD from the highway.

I have also seen a bunch of CN grain hoppers coming through as well. I am pretty sure that there is a IC and UP interchange at that yard.

BNSF crews handle CN grain trains under a haulage agreement between East Dubuque and Centralia (for those destined to NS and the Gulf) and between East Dubuque and Peoria (for those destined to A. E. Staley in Decatur). This move has been in effect since October 2000.

As for the original question, I'm thinking that there is CN (ex-IC)/NS interchange at New Orleans (mostly local traffic), Meridian (MS) and Memphis.

    Justin,
There are several southeastern interchanges between the IC (CN) and the NS. Occasionally we see an IC unit here in Atlanta but it is usually the CN power that makes it here. Some places that come to mind without doing research are New Orleans, Memphis, Fulton KY (I think) and Carbondale IL. IC used to have a line that ran south through middle TN into eastern Mississippi that met up with the NS around Merridian MS I think. Some of that line was sold to NS and some to the MidSouth RR which has since become part of the KCS. Hope that helps.
