I found this today and nobody knew anything about it other than : It was a kit. It is brass, unpainted. The trucks say "Kadee USA " on the bottom. It is a chicken car ? ? ? Did any railroad actually have "chicken hauling cars" or would it have been some chicken processors car? Anybody know anything about the car and would it have any significant value? If not, I may blast it with baking soda and paint it. I'll call it "The Chicken Shack".
I sure don't recognize it. Have glanced through what little older information I can find easily from my assorted messy piles of magazines and catalogs, etc.
Found this, Sears poultry car....Mike http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/rosethornil/Poultry_Train.jpg
There was one of these on e-bay back in july, but it was painted; so this isn't it I guess...? Listed as a poultry car. The listing says the kit was made by "American N" sometime in the 70's...
On Spookshow's site about three entrys under the watermellon car. http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/freight/anbpoultry.html Also enter poultry car on Google search and then hit images. Loads of photos. Keep it since it dates back to before Kadee split up and it is one of those rare cars that we won't see produced again.
I don't think the Kadee-MTL split has anything to do with this car except the TRUCKS. Kadee trucks used on a brass model probably mftd without trucks, or supplied w Kadee trucks. As for N scale models of chickens in the car as shown in the prototytpe photo, I once used HO scale pigeons and kitbashed them into N scale chickens. Shameless plug- I have this structure model for sale on Trainstore...
Not inferring that the Kadee/MT split has anything to do with this car except to date it since MT came into being in 1990 and the car was manufactured in 1970 or around that time when Kadee was making N scale trucks. So both the car and trucks have some years on them.
LOL!…Or how about an installed scenting device. As the car traverses your layout it's followed by a cloud of odeur de poulet.
If it smells anything like the chicken trucks I see every day around here, and Im sure it does, it would have been a very unpopular car to have in your train...LOL
Wonder if that was a Quality Craft "brass" kit? They made some interesting car kits way back in the 70s -- i had aPRR N5c kit.
congratulations on making it into "Model Photos of the Week" with your chicken car picture! Baaaaaaaak bak bak!
I like the unusal cars too. I think it would be cool to have some (or one) car(s) like this poultry car. I'd also love to see a vinegar car, barrel car etc.. how many other unusual cars can we think of ? Ye Olde huff and puff made some neat cars in HO , Ambroid made some neat stuff too ... Randy
