I don't think the assumptions are entirely correct in this thread. I think the Z scalers have it all over all of us others in all scales, based on my observation over the last 12 years when the first MicroTrains diesels came out, and Model Railroader made a project Z scale layout.

I am passionate about N scale, first and foremost, but also love modeling and have home layouts in N, HO, Z, and just tore down my garden G thanks to new landscapers in our development. I have also 2 rail Proto 48 O scale rail stored, as some S, but no layouts yet.

If I had to make a choice, N scale hands down, but my O scale is pretty down the list. Even if I had 3 rail O, it would be even farther down. Our train shows and swap meets always have 2 or 3 3-rail O layouts and they just don't bring about the adrenaline that other scales do. I used to model Lionel O-27 as a kid, and the memories are the only allure. I don't like their noise, claptrapping along, clunkiness, and out of scale and proportion locos and rolling stock. It is like they are intentionally failing to be realistic, but trying to show us they are. I just figure out the purpose.

I am not denigrating any O scaler, or the scale itself, it is just not my cup of tea. I think the O scalers do have passion, and it is the same guys I see with their transportable layouts year after year, so I salute them, and consider them brothers. I just don't like the size and other characteristics.
