Hello, My names Mark AKA Stomp. Ive been interested in trains for a long time. I got the bug again a few weeks ago. I wanted to add a few new locos and rolling stock to my small collection. While looking at the Atlas site I found that they had a forum. To my dismay I see that it will be discontinued but while there someone mentioned this site so here I am. Ive owned several train sets in the past but never attempted to build my own layout. My woodworking and electrical skills are somewhat lacking. I did attempt to build a diorama with a kit from Woodland scenics around 10 years ago that turned out ok you can see it on the pics I attached. My other pieces are in or on display cases. I have around 7 Lionel rolling stock in my basement. I look forward to reading alot of your posts and looking at your professional pro and not so professional layouts. Heres a description of my other pics and a question. The tin Lionel caboose is from 1940. Its in great shape and cost me 20 bucks plus shipping. The Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation and Model Power USRA 4-6-2 Pacific were purchased in 2007-08 and my C420 Norfolk and Western loco was purchased last week. Here's my question: I just purchased a Atlas RS-3 Cotton Belt N scale loco #4215 for $43.65 MIB After some digging I found that it was made by Atlas/Kato in Japan and was rated rather highly on some guy named Spookshows site. The Atlas Logo on the box is different from the new logo and says Atlas tool Co. am I correct in assuming that my train is from the mid 1980s? It has Japan on the bottom. Thanks for reading my diatribe!

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I don't have any of the older Atlas/Kato any more, as my interests have evolved. But they were rock solid engines. Someone else will need to help fill in the vintage information for you.

Hi Stomp. Welcome to Trainboard! :)

Review of this particular forum is pretty limited, so you would probably have a better chance of posing your question(s) in the specific forum of the gauge you are using. I'm sure someone in here will have the answer for you.
