I thought I'd share a few photos from inside a few GEs. A conductor's view from a D9-40CW in Erlanger, KY. An engineer's view from a D9-40CW in Fort Mitchell, KY. An engineer's view from a CSX D8-40CW in Louisville, KY (CSX Osborn Yard looking at FX Tower).
Jeff, Thanks for the cab shots. They are all neat, but the top picture has it all: signals, a bridge, a crossing, local buildings, etc. What a treat! Harold
In that first photo that signal with a red over green is a "slow clear" correct ? Crossing over somewhere ? Or going into a siding or yard ? cool photos
Red over green on ex-Southern lines is "Diverging Clear." The train will diverge at the block and should expect a approach or clear signal at the next block.
Jeff, thank you for the photos, I really enjoy seeing the work environment of the crews and their views. lets me "imagineer" better. Bobby
I am from the semaphore times, so not familiar with the blinky lites today. In the first photo taken from the fireman/conductor's side of the cab, it looks like the fireman has a double dead stop, but the engineer may proceed slowly being prepaired to stop ahead. Does that mean the conductor has to get out and walk ahead? (Bad joke?) Well I'll submit this Sunset shot out the Engineer's side heading west for Port Jervis, yes it is the Norfolk & Southern! Thanks for the pictures For us non-railroaders, there is something special about 'engineers-eye-wiew' shots!
I have some really good pictures of the bridge we cross going into the luther yard in St.Louis I'll try to get them posted.I was on a NS dash 8 (ex conrail). Also have some great pics from the interlocking at Mitchell Il. of a KCS sd60.Maybe they will make it here also.
