Isn't there a lift or bascule bridge out there? Manned? If there is an operator, how do they get there? Hi-rail?

I'll bet it's remotely operated now. I'm sure back in the day it was manned, and a lonely outpost! Maybe the bridge tender liked fishing...

The last Atlanta Division employee TimeTable I have show all drawbridges on the NO&M Sub as being 'Attended' though the Pearl River bridge is only attened 0600 to 2200 daily. TimeTable is from 2005. I have not been able to get a post Katrina Timetable.

The fifth (center) segment is a swing span as shown by the approaches and a slightly different profile.

I'm surprized the Pearl River bridge is listed as "daily". I remember it as "on-demand" by NASA for occasional Stennis Space Center rocket stage and fuel barge traffic.

West of Belden siding, the silent tracks of Tennessee Pass witness only the movement of wildlife now...:(
    _MG_4979.jpg
The trail at right once was the second main track until 1958 when it was downgraded to a long siding, and 1968 when it was pulled up.

Oh wow, those are fascinating views. I can see a rock slide in the first picture. So, is this the line that might be revived?

Some folks are trying to get it going again. However there is a lot of opposition for whatever reason. This is the same area only in winter. The abandoned line is across the river. You can see where the rock slide has covered the roadbed as well as the signal cabinet seen in Hemi's first photo .

Regardless of the grades here, I very much dislike removing rail corridors these days. If we are serious about life concerns, turning such routes into public playgrounds is worse than unwise.

    Beautiful countryside!

I agree. What's more "eco-responsible" - people going through in a nice and slow train, sitting back and enjoying the scenery, or even more people traipsing through there, on a "linear park" as they call it here, either on foot or on bicycles, many of them unable to resist the urge to drop their trash wherever they happen to be?

I'll take the train. Old-timey cars and even some open cars with comfy reclining seats to sit back and enjoy the ride. Pulled by an old Shay.

    Ya gotta dream!:)

From April 1987 at Seymour IN, JO Tower. The B&O and PRR once crossed here; tower is gone today. I waited here for quite some time, hoping to capture JO, the B&O CPL signals and a train, but it was not to be.

I got to Bloomingburg, NY 24 years too late to see NYO&W F-3s exiting High View Tunnel. [11/15/1981]

I know where that is. The road bridge next to it is Jean-Lesage Boulevard and the highway overpass in the background is highway 440. Right behind you is the VIA station. The mighty St-Lawrence river is about two km to the right.

Nicely framed with the tree branches to either side.(y)
