I hooked everything up according to Aztek instructions. I came to the blue wire, and I don't know what to do. The instructions don't have anything on there to tell me what to do with it. Can anyone help me with this problem or tell me what the blue wire is for? Or is it an extra and should be discarded? Thanks, Dan
The blue wire is "common" for the lights (actually all functions, but DZ123 only has two). When you turn on the front light, power flows down the white wire, through the LED/bulb and back through the blue wire. Similarly for the yellow wire and the rear light. So the correct way to wire the blue wire is to the opposite side of the bulb(/LED+resistor) to either of the white and yellow wires as appropriate. Just make sure when doing this that both sides of the new wiring are isolated from the frame. One alternative some people use is to only isolate one side of the lamp, and use the previous (DC) connection to power the other half. This is less efficient, and harder on the bulb/LED, but it makes the blue wire optional. An example of half-isolated is given here And an example with blue wires (not as clear?) is here
The blue wire is hooked up with your white wire for the front headlight and/or with the yellow wire for the rear headlight. Stay cool and run steam.....
Originally decoders did not have the blue wire and some of the less expensive decoders today still do not have them. I don't use the blue wire in that it is one more wire that I have to mess with. Wiring without the blue wire is refered to as common rail wiring I think. Also digitrax states to use the blue wire for transponding which I do not use so that is one reason I do not use it. To each his own. I will say this those Aztec frames ROCK
