    Interesting reading, perhaps overly simplistic, and saying that the Deltic was powered by a speedboat engine is kind of misleading for the average reader, I'm sure most of them would think "outboard motor!" when you say that! [​IMG]

    Speedboat engine indeed!!! Marine engine might be a better description [​IMG] I cannot see how the introduction of the Deltics was the start of the decline, as they were very successful in speeding up services on the ecml.

    Why do journalists get everything wrong when it comes to railways? At least the BBC news on tv was regularly interviewing Christian Wolmar about the Potters Bar derailment, which is better than guessing the 'facts'.

    <font color="336633">Why am I not suprised????? could it be that as far as the media is concerned we have the worst railway in the world? or is it just another reason to bash our country again? i'm sure we are the only country to do that to our selfs, fair enough our railway needs improving big time but its not as bad as people make out surly :confused: </font>
