Has anyone tried using the Kato Unitram 23-142 N Gauge Freight Depot Plate set for an intermodal yard? I saw someone try this on a Youtube video and it looked decent. I'm skeptical of my ability to make a large area out of something like Smooth-It without a lot of unevenness or blemishes, but I'm worried the Unitram plates would look too plastic-ky. Anyone tried?

A friend of mine used it in a T-Trak module to make a small intermodal yard with 2 tracks. It works really good.

Those seem like a good idea and I want to try that at some point. Should be pretty easy. I figure they will probably need a coat of concrete colored paint or at least some weathering to look right.

It looks like the beginning of this video shows what you want to do. I hope it helps.
