    I've tried to compile a list of all North American locomotives available in Z, in production or not. Is this correct?

    WIDE RELEASE:

    Marklin:
    * F7
    * 2-8-2 (prototype?)
    * 4-6-2 (prototype?)
    * GG1
    Micro-Trains:
    * F7
    * GP35

    LIMITED RUN:

    Marklin:
    * 4-6-0 (prototype?)
    Micro-Trains:
    * SP 2-6-0
    AZL:
    * GP38-2 (Rogue Locomotive Works)
    * C44-9W
    * E8
    * PA1
    * SD40
    * SD40-2
    * SD40T-2
    * SD45
    * F45
    * F59PHI
    * SD70MAC (coming soon)
    * SD75I (coming soon)
    * SP 4-8-4
    * SP 4-8-8-2 (coming soon)
    Freudenreich Feinwerktechnik:
    * F40PH
    * Alco-GE-IR boxcab diesel
    * New Haven NY-3 boxcab electric
    Lajos Thek:
    * SW1

    It's clear from this list that the real weakness of Z is steam - unless you're modelling SP.

    It looks pretty close. I don't think you missed anything. I agree, I'd like more steam myself.

    He got it under limited run. I didn't see it myself the first time I read the list. You can be sure I was looking for that one! :D I think he did miss the Marklin mogul though in the bumble bee scheme...

    You are right Joe, I dont know my steamer. Under Marklin, he has the Pacific and the Mike.
    Does he have the casey jones, or he is doing it under wheel arrengement. Triplex, Maybe you should put names under your steames.

    Casey Jones is a Ten Wheeler or 4-6-0, and Mogul is 2-6-0. The list looks as complete as I have seen so far. [IMG]

    As far as the Pacific and the Mikado, the shell kind of looks like a Light Pacific as used by the NP, but the shell is the same as the Mikado, and don't really look like any Mike's I have seen. At least the wheel arrangement is represented. :D

    Aspen model offers a Z scale Hudson and a Z steam 0-6-0. They come both as kits and ready to run. Both are on Marklin chassis.

    http://www.aspenmodel.com/

    Pennzee offered a shell for a streamline Pennsy K4. The shell was produced by GHQ.

    A German company, Scholz I believe, offered the Casey Jones before Marklin offered. I actually have one. Also, on a Marklin chassis.

    ISM offered drop on shells for Marklin's 0-6-0. They also had a VERY bad F40 shell.

    AZL does not have SD40s. Just SD40-2s and SD40T-2s. The SPs are GS3 and GS4, both in the skirted and unskirted versions. The SD70Ms are coming soon, not the SD70MACs (different locos).

    Oh yes, one more. Marklin offered an Amtrak version of the ICE. This is based on a test set of the German ICE that ran in the US for a brief time.

    Does anyone know the web address of Penzee, Scholz, and ISM? I would like to add them to my MFR database.

    Rob -

    Thanks for the clarificaton. I realized before you mentioned it that I should have typed SD70M instead of SD70MAC. I had a vague recollection of a Hudson, but I wasn't sure who made it. I also wasn't sure whether to list engines that were only available as shells for a different chassis.

    Once my mind started turning, all the old shells came to me.

    ISM is no longer. Pennzee is still active. So is Scholz (my spelling is likely wrong).

    Pennzee is:

    1333 Crums Mill Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17112
    (717) 540-8853

    Aspen also offeres a Porter 0-6-0T shell for the Marklin 0-6-0T similar to the Alco 0-6-0T shell from ISM that Rob mentioned.

    If you want to do a little bit of kitbashing and are a juicehead like me, you could convert a DB class 101 into a New Jersey Transit ALP46. There is no rolling stock that would be appropriate to run with it in Z scale though.

    There are a few maybes out there as well.

    At NTS 2002 PennZee had a sheet of etched brass for an early Zephyr streamliner, but it has not moved in to production. Bob also talked about building a shell for a deisel switcher or transfer loco like an Alco C415 (?) at one point. PennZee seems to be making a comeback now (are the girls in college now?).

    Small Scale Logistics had plans to build a sort of freelanced diesel industrial switcher, but it was put on hold when Cliff went back to school.

    Someone, I always forget who, proposed doing a shell for an Alco FA last year. The master looks great, but we haven't heard anything more about it since then.

    If someone can help me figure out how to attach an Excel file here, I have a similar list of NA rolling stock that was produced in Z at some point or another.

    I think that's it. Is the C415 the center cab traqnsfer engine?

    Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking of for the C415.

    UP's new truck engined switchers look sort of like this as well, and I believe they arre using Blomberg trucks too, if anyone out there is a UP fan.

    But now I am digressing into scratchbuilding and kitbashing. ;)

    That thing kind of looks like a lowrider RS-11 crossed with a 44 tonner on steriods and a GP-35 cab slapped on for good measure! :D [IMG]

    A little bit late, but the Marklin Pacific and Mikado are both based on USRA "Light" versions of these locs. They actually are pretty close. They did share boilers and many parts. My problem with them is that thePennsy didn't actually run them (at least not in any real numbers). Even the Pennsy's light pacifics and Mikados were bigger than these. But, some roads did run them. My guess is that Marklin chose these because the driver diameters matched European locos (or at least came close).

    Thanks for the address. I was looking more for Pennzee and Scholz website addresses. I do not think Pennzee has a website?? I couldn't find one...

    Pennzee is supposed to be coming out with a web site but I have not seen anything yet. I'll check with Bob Olsen as to when he thinks he will have it up and running.

    Scholz web address is: http://www.modscholz.de/
