I've come across this scheme shown on Oddballs Decal site but can't locate any confirmation of the scheme in any of my books. Anybody know if it is correct and the number series it is correct for?
George..... In the Santa Fe Railway Painting and Lettering Guide, on page 42, there is a picture of a car like this, numbered 309690. (Class GA-161.)

Yep, that's more like it. I was pretty sure I'd seen that combination before but I didn't have proof. Have at it, George!
BTW, Windle, you have a space in "jpg" in the last part of the URL which is why the link and/or the image don't work.
Tom Stolte, chief cook, bottlewasher & Head Flunky of Oddballs Decals, has a rep of putting out accurate decals. Every one I've ever bought from him was dead-on. I can vouch for his accuracy, as well as workmanship of his decals. I'm sure if you have any questions, he'll answer them. Not a paid plug, just a testmonial from a happy customer
Friscobob: I was not casting aspersions on Tom or his products. We want to carry the line! But he has been backed up for months what with having to put his father in a nursing home etc. I just wanted to track down the scheme to get a road number sequence to compare with my ORERs and ATSF color guides.
I shoulda put in more smilies......my post was a testimonial for Tom Stolte's handiwork from the standpoint of a happy customer who has used his decals for accurate-looking models. I surely understand your concern for accuracy. I also understand how it is to have an ailing parent put in a nursing home for total care. His being a small operation is rough, I'm sure. I'm sure you're not casting aspersions, as we're both on the same page when it comes to Oddballs Decals' quality.
