Welcome back everyone, I’m still on the road In Nebraska on my way back to Illinois from the Spring Creek Train Show. It was a great weekend with plenty to see. How was your weekend? Did you accomplish a lot? Let us know. We’ll assemble again on Friday the 14th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe and as always…

I mounted two HCDs to the walls on Saturday for my shelf bench work. Still had lots of time for family and housework.

I did get my HOn30 freight car trucks painted. (Amazed myself!) Worked a bit on my train order collection. Relaxed, and read a book for a while. Nice....

I'm still too busy getting my new electric tricycle working and adding proper and safe lights. To include directionals. It has a 48V Lithium Ion battery so there's no messing around with that. Have to add on. Just like in model train layouts and DCC.
But I keep looking, reading and trying. ;)

Yet another weekend in the books. I was busy all weekend but feel like I really didn't get much done. Saturday, I spent a little time at the work bench organizing my tools and wire supplies to prep for redoing some of the wiring on the layout. Then I did measurements to use to build a small work table that I could roll in and out from under the layout. Then cooked ribs and the day was done. Sunday afternoon, I did build the small rolling table. It was made with a combination of things left over from other projects and some free scraps of wood I was able to get. I guess it was a successful weekend but doesn't feel like it.

Hope you all have a great week!

Made it through another weekend, did not accomplish all I wanted but got a lot done.

Major project was the Sam Rea Shops 4600CF Covered Hopper kit.

Most of the underframe pieces attached.

All of the underframe complete except for the Sill Steps which will be added last before painting.

Also got some loads in the mail and started work on those and one Exactrail bulkhead flat where I had to attach all the wood flooring pieces, came out beautifully and will hold of the loads I received.

I painted up some load pieces and will be installing them in cars this week, also got one side of a gon and boxcar decaled. Did not get some other cars painted that I wanted to.

We got a few outdoor things done, mostly on Saturday between storms. The squirrels, aka tree rats destroyed one of the window boxes so my wife had to replant it with new plants. I managed to finally catch up on the big bulky laundry stuff. Took it easy Sunday as it rained and rained most of the day. Rained so such the project site is under almost 12 feet of water as the Schuylkill River is just below flood stage today. Sunday the kids got home from their European cruise. I finally got the new air conditioner app loaded to our phones so now my wife can control it from her phone.

I tuned up and inventoried somewhere around 30 pieces of rolling stock over the weekend. I did get to run some trains for a few moments. I also organized some of the bins I store the rolling stock in and moved around some extra foam board I have so I could unclutter the area around the layout.

Friday, as previously noted, I returned a WiFi dongle that I bought on Amazon (because it was cheap crap), did some shopping for the train club, and started work on some scale cardstock houses and shipping containers. Folding paper towels not being in stock anywhere, I ordered them from Amazon whilst still sitting in the parking lot of Lowe's.

Saturday, since I drive a pickup truck with and 8 ft. bed, I helped one of church folk (technically her grandchildren) move some furniture from her home and from a storage unit to her new assisted living apartment. Then I went home, emailed my professor and continued our negotiation of my semester research paper. Following that, I did a few minor chores around the house, made a trip with my wife and the doggos to the dog park, and did more work on the cardstock creations. Surprisingly, UPS also delivered the case of bi-fold, commercial paper towels that I had ordered only the day before.

Sunday was church, a light snack, then out to the Sebring Model Railroad Club. There, I restocked the cabinet with paper towels, TP, etc., collected some member dues, paid the water bill, and discovered that we were now out of checks. So, while I was there, I searched online and also ordered checks. My friend Lynn was doing a fine job working on the cork roadbed so I was able to focus on some of the financials and other stuff. I left the club, drove back to church, and had a two hour Zoom meeting with our Liberia Farmer to Farmer mission board discussing how much progress we can make on the high school that we are building with the small amount of money that we currently have. Some of our Liberian board members were pushing for completion this year, and hiring staff in time for a fall opening, but that is at least a year's worth of fundraising away... if not two. Anyway, after that Zoom meeting, I watered our part of the church garden since the rain keeps missing us, then made an appearance at the graduation party of one of our Eagle Scouts, before finally landing at home to rest for the evening. I did, however, before and after church, finish my negotiation with my professor and now have a topic for my semester research paper. Hopefully, this week, I will spend one day making a visit to the seminary library, and do some online research toward that end.

Below are the cardstock containers that I completed this weekend (and which are now at the train club), as well as the HO scale "test house" that I made. The goal is for me to make this same house in Z-scale, but I wanted to build a bigger one first to better understand the construction before doing it in the fiddly size.

One lesson learned was that I should magic marker the underside of the house roof *before* gluing everything together. Doh!

    Good morning all,

Cool and windy again here in the SF Bay Area so spent some good time in the train room. I did finish the minor re-wiring related to the changing of the controls on the staging yard and got everything working to my satisfaction. Cleaned up the work bench and cleaned the tracks in that staging yard that had not been used since February. Ran some trains and started a project to make the coal loads in my Micro-Trains coal loads removable with a magnet.

Nebraska is a big place with a lot of corn. (y) Benchwork going up! Relaxed and read a book = top of the world. RSD-15's! ;) Safety first @Shortround. (y) I guess success is how you measure it? :sneaky: Covered hopper in the works! :) Tuned thirty pieces of rolling stock! ;) House looks great, @Pastor John. Ahhh, ran some trains... I have been forming domes. Also stacks. I think I have enough stuff to start installing them. o_O Good bit more to do. I may cut cabs on the hobby laser. Have a dry and safe week. :D

    Thank you.

I started working on the same house reduced to Z-scale this morning. Fingers crossed.

Went out and bought paint for the new rechargeable airbrush coming in tomorrow (11th) by the end of the day. Discovered a new LHS in the process, even closer than the current one. Very good on customer service, focuses more on R/C and drones, and model kits. Has a train lineup too, but on order only AFAIK.

Definitely to be a repeat customer.:)

OK, I maybe did not get much locomotive programming done, but I made some progress on cars for my Wichita & Northwestern project. Now I am sorting out uniform couplers, painting wheels and trucks, and trying to get these all to the point of weathering. Still a few to address, but getting closer to having a fleet for this small switching layout built to be Free-mo compatible.

Had a busy weekend. Just didn't make it to the railroad projects. As I posted on Saturday, Sharon and I visited with her aunt all Saturday morning through lunch. Spent the rest of Saturday tinkering with some projects for my daughter's wedding. Sunday, I did spend a little time prepping the paint booth. We watched a pair of soccer matches. One went to extra time and ended up lasting three hours, chewing up the time I thought might be used for painting. Today I took the Volt for a rock chip repair, did a little shopping and finally did some painting. However, it was for the wedding, not the railroad. It was a good weekend. I will get the loco in the spray booth. Honest. I will.

    Stay safe,

    Update:

Here is the HO scale house from my previous post, alongside the newly completed, identical Z-scale house. If my math is right, on the photocopier, the smaller one is 43% of the larger one.

It isn't perfect. The chimney parts are too fiddly for my fingers, and rolling the vertical clay pipes pulled some of the ink off the paper, but overall, I'm pretty pleased. This gives me a path forward in the rehabilitation of my Dad's Z scale layout.
