A glimpse of the glory on the high iron... Yah Right... I have no idea why I do what I do for a living, yet I couldnt see myself doing anything else. I truly love my job. Which is why I also feel I should be instatutionalised. Were do I start. Well late one afternoon I found myself having a "job briefing" with a co-conspititor. Known on the dark side as "Kung-Fo Panda". Due to his jolly happy panda like disposition, yet, having vicious claws if played with. Plus.....hes fat, panda shaped. We were discussing the implosion of a talentless superior and anything we could do to help that situation. Hes one of those supervisors who forgott were he came from. Likes to hang people, accountability. Account, of the fact he was the biggest___________ ever and somehow thinks he can set the universe right, by getting all the perks away he litterally exploited. I had use of the sup. in question's truck to handle the Form B as my regular issue was in the shop. So after agreeing on a course of action. I pointed out a new dent in said truck. "Oh my God" said panda, as his continance shrunk. "How did you do that"? Well, says I, I took some gasoline and cleaned off the green paint. Then I sprayed the area with armorall and drove up and down a dusty roas to hide it as best I could. "Green, it was green, what did you hit"? says panda I have no idea, but it was green. *then he rubed the area to see how bad it was* Dont do that, I said. "Why.......Ohhhhh" *as I got more spray armorall out* "Ah, lots of people drive that truck, like.......well... just dont tell him. He will run into something himself soon enough". Ya Think? "Well...probebly not" *panda stares at the affected area* "Im getting the hell out of here.....he loves that truck" *back on his tamper and away he went, just like there was a eucalyptus leaf up the line* I figure I must have hit a KEEP OUT sign. Baised on the bent over KEEP OUT sign jammed into the bumper. I had decided to help the train crew run around there cars...two throws at two switches, right by the KEEP OUT sign. Well, No good deed goes unpunished dose it?

becouse How else could I confirm my, "hiding of dent", abilities in such an emotionaly charged state of mind. Besides pandas are known for loyalty and silence.

Ya know if we had a guy who would interview us I would gladly share true tales of the rails. I would write a book myself but the poor editor would throw the manuscript at me screaming! Best one I have read so far was by Charles Steffes. If you want a good laugh read his stories. He was an SP engineer during the "Golden Age".If I could write like him no prob. I just get off on a side track with some stories.
A lady Named Ruth Trueblood Eckes has written a series of Rail Tales books. Five so far. Don't know if she has more planned. She's a former NP telegrapher. Boxcab E50
