That was a real tragedy. Hope they can determine the cause, though the speculation about the signaling is probably right.

Guys, Some more info, about the tragic wreck. It was a cornfield meet, that regional line is still mostly single track and DARK territory. No signaling, the traffic goes on by the station masters talking to each other before giving the train order to proceed. A traffic congestion unfortunately let one of the station masters believe the line was free and he let one of the trains go. Of course the poor guy did not follow the procedure to call the other master, and, besides a charge for accidental manslaughter, has to live with the ghosts of all dead people. That is most unfortunate as the line was planned to be doubled and, most important, upgraded with the automatic train control that is a standard on the state railways.
