Well it's happened again, another work week is about to end, and it's time to start thinking about the weekend. It's also the unofficial end to so summer and many of us have Labor Day off. That means we either have an extra day of modeling, or an extra day of "Honey Do" or family functions.

    I've decided to save money and stay put in Newton this weekend and put some more time in my Prescott Mills layout. My goals are lofty but they included;

    1. getting more feedback in the layout discussion thread on what industries I should focus on and track design.

    2. All the track in my "industrial area" will be pulled. The foam roadbed taken up, then track will be re-laid with a focus on a simple spur or two. The track will be laid directly on the foam base to simulate the "in the weeds" look. All the track will be soldered for better conductivity.

    3. The "concrete plant" or back side of the layout may become smaller and reflect the small town of Potter Place NH. Not an exact copy but certainly the "look".

    4. If I have time, hopefully start basic land forming of the foam base.

    5. Make a shopping list, I need the code 55 Caboose Hobbies turn out throws, some Polly Scale paint for the track, some good ballast and other odds and ends.

Last, hopefully salvage my RC airplane items that were damaged from Irene last week. The items will have to come up in the apartment and the layout may be moved to my dining room, but hey, for six more months I'm alone so it doesn't matter.

So what are you doing? Leave your list bellow, and as always, pictures of before so we can post pictures of after on Tuesday's thread are encouraged.

Sounds like a good plan, Jim. I work for myself, so Labor Day off is more of a fantasy, but I'll be squeezing in a little bit of modeling over the weekend. Main project will be the boxcab. Last night I cut down the caboose body shell and trimmed off 4mm so it looks much more like the prototype, and now I'm working on cutting out the cab end windows. So far, got one done and hope to have all four by Monday/Tuesday. Also on the list is making/faking the two doors on the sides. Might also get around to doing some more work on the idler/reach gondola project (need to install railings).

Have a great weekend, everyone! :)

My long weekend plans include: DCC buss, more spline roadbed, sand, cork roadbed, lay code 55, wire to buss, test... Then my lazy summer is over, and back to teaching on Tuesday:thumbs_down:

Glad you're online, Jim. How did your part of New Jersey handle the storm? We never lost power, but there are folks only a few towns away that are still in the dark.

This will probably be the weekend to start the Merchants' Row II kit. That's the one with the corner turret, which I've always liked. After looking at pictures of the City Classics diner, I really think I can do a better job of painting the trim, so I'll likely be masking and re-spraying it. And then there's the surrounding sidewalk and roadway to take care of.

I'll be continuing the teardown of the old layout in preperation of the new and improved Trinity Creek Coal, and I may even do some kind of a small test track to check my loco's and make sure everything still works

Oh yeah, and I'll be working on a little test track to make a template for my car float and test my cars & locos on the 5.5 inch radius curves. Thanks for the reminder. :)

I have been storing my N-Trak modules at a home I own in the Catskills near Delhi. I want to go up for the weekend and bring them home to do some work on them but the road I go there on is in some of the most heavily damaged areas from Hurricane Irene. I don't know if the road is open and if it isn't I don't know how long it will be until they are. I take RT 28 through Phoenica, Fleishmans, Arkville and Margretville. I'm going to try tomorrow.

My Central Valley switch kits and bulk crosstie packs arrived today. Hopefully I will get down to Lowes and get 2" foam board, Liquid nails and a sheet of wood luan and lay some ties out this weekend.

Where I live in Northwestern NJ, I got lucky. Never even had my power flicker, yet down the road a bit they just got their power back on Thursday. Newton had some flooding but my apartment complex survived very well. My garage did flood and get into some boxes, so I'll be spending today sorting through that and moving the RC airplanes into bedroom 2 and the layout into the dinning area. Glad you came out of it ok too!

It has been a long time since I have had any modeling plans. Moving, new (to us) house, meaning a huge new honey-do list, along with some health problems have made it difficult to get back to railroading. Well that is changing this weekend.

My plans are to get started on a new hollow core door layout. My daughter, Macey 8yo, has been bugging me because she wants to run trains. So, I have been working on a new track plan that is not based on a specific prototype, but will let me and her work on a layout together and have a place to run trains.

Cool. You have indeed been quiet this past year.

Let us see the plan when ready! I keep thinking about a door myself. Perhaps this will inspire me to give it a try.
