Yes it's Friday, what do you have in store for this weekend in the modeling world, Trick-or-Treat or trains?

I finally have a day off, so since last weeks trip to the LHS was a bust, I'm going to another shop to hopefully get what I need. The switch/'s and some flex to put in the siding/'s. I hope this one isn't OOS.
I also have some cars I want to build plus layout maintenance.

You must run trains, they want it!- :D

Hope everyone has a great weekend!- [IMG]

My modeling plans are to break in a new soldering iron by wiring a 10' NTrak module set. I've relaid the track on half of it, now I've got to finish the other half in time for Trainfest coming up in Milwaukee in two weeks.

I've got a couple photos of this module set in my railimages gallery: http://www.railimages.com/gallery/seanlamb?page=2
It's about in the middle of the page, the "pink plains" set. I'm also going to slap some paint onto the modules and build some cardstock mockup structures for the show, but I don't think I'll get to that part of the project this week.

I get the bittersweet job of throwing away the faulty benchwork and starting over. I misread my plans and wound up with a curve (on a slope no less) that was less than 8" radius. (and of course I was using wood glue that is stronger than the foam... gr).

So, if all goes well I will have fresh new benchwork coming along soon, and this time I'll use a glue that I can pull up when I goof!

Mother-in-law coming to visit - may not have any time to do squat :(

Would love to add some more grass and dirt and rocks to my mountain, and maybe even get a start on a DPM building.

Hammer, did the same thing myself, dont feel too bad.

Another work session on the Rock Springs engine shop board this weekend. Assorted building work and scenicking.

I've also kitbashed two Bachmann motel buildings together roughly, I need to see how it looks on the layout before carrying on.

There is still loads of filling to do on it before I get to painting stage!

The kids are having a Halloween Party on Saturday night.

Tomorrow my son will play with the Drexel Hill Raiders Pee Wee AA as they visit the Clifton Heights Rams at 9 AM. My daughter cheers for the Midget A team at 3:30 PM. Thank heavens Clifton Heights is close and we can come home between games. On Sunday the Raiders Pee Wee AAA team will play the Springfield Cougars at home. This will be my son’s last football game for the season. His team has done well. They are 4-2-1 going into the game Saturday. The AA and AAA teams don’t have playoffs since they are instructional. The Pee Wee A team, however is 6-1 and playing Clifton who is 7-0 so both will be in the playoffs. The Midget A team that my daughter cheers for is 0-5-2 will most likely lose on Saturday, so Saturday will be her last football/cheerleader game for the season. She does have a competition in December and another in February. We have a month off and then December 1 starts basketball.

I just found out that the LNE placed the locomotive number in the center of the rear of the tender, so it looks like the tender is not done. Still have not decided about the number on the sand dome of the LNE 0-8-0 switcher yet. I also just got some number decals from Accurail for the Kyle ACF covered hopper. MY son wants me to build that for him. BTW his name is Kyle and this would be his second Kyle hopper.

I recently discovered modular N scale!

I joined a group starting up with Bend modular standard, and tomorrow most of the day I'll be working on the end/balloon module I started two weeks ago. Very fun stuff. Here's a link to the Bend modular standard if curious:

Thats cool! I love their idea of spray on ballast seen here (bottom picture)

And the Alien Jct. inlet area is sweet!

I think modular would be great... so I could stretch out my trains!

Wondering if there are any in my area...

BendTrack is an excellent concept. I wish there was someone close to me. But there's nobody within many hundreds of miles. Oh well.

I did however get some work done last night (Friday night) decaling some hoppers, see this link for more info and pics.

We're just getting started, so far we have a balloon module and 2 straights operating and I started a second balloon module so we could get continuous running, and hopefully set up and show off. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow of our humble beginnings.

Mike, if you're in the Sacramento area I know there's at least an N-track club annnd I just found their website: http://saccentral.railfan.net/
They're always set up at regional shows, if you go to the Roseville show in two weeks they'll be there.

Well, it's already Saturday Afternoon here, so I've gotten a head start. . .

So far today I've replaced the DCC decoder I smoked last weekend - best guess I shorted orange to chassis. Autopsy suggests it might be just a bridge rectifier diode that's gone - certainly it's the one with the scorch marks - so a little surgery at work might bring it back. Maybe.

Next is lubing the geartrain and cleaning the contacts so that the engine actually gets around a loop of track without roaring and stalling.

After that, I might work on a track plan, or read trainboard's forums...

N scale: Got all 800 feet of track cleaned, and got a train around the entire loop for the first time in about a year. With all the building and scenery, there were only two places where I'm having some trouble. I may have pinched the track in one curve, as my Katos PAs want to jump off, and one of my long truss bridges popped its track, so we had an ugly side snag. Took five hours to get an engine around the loop the first time. cleaning when it stopped. Then a consist of B-B ER Sharks pulled a passenger train on about 30 minute loops all night.
