We've made it again. The end of the track of another work week. What do you plan to get done this weekend?

I plan to make up for last weekends lost time. Starting Saturday morning, both myself and a fellow railfan buddy, plan to chase and get pictures of this years CN Santa Train. The train will be traveling on the old Illinois Central main that cuts through Clinton, IL and through our neighboring town of Farmer City before stopping in Gibson City at 8:00AM. The Santa Train will stop there for a few hours so the kids can see Santa, the the train departs to points north. It should be fun. I plan to meet my buddy at a local diner for breakfast then follow the tracks north to Gibson City on old Route 54. Jared has his last game of the early indoor season at 1:00, so I'll go see him play then I plan to work on my home layout/modules through out the rest of both days.

So how about you? What plans do you have this weekend? Time maybe limited with all the Holiday items taking up your time, but if you sneak away a few moments to get a few things done, we want to hear about them. We'll all come back on Monday the 15th and see how we all did. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and...

TGIF. This is my final Friday. From now on, all Fridays will be the same as any other day, as retirement is now just days away.

Jim, I envy your railfanning trips. There's not much here but commuter rail. Say hi to Santa for me.

Actually, that's not true. Instead of midweek work, though, I'll have midweek skiing, and we'll come home after skiing Friday night, so I'll still be concentrating my modeling on the weekends until the spring.

As of now, though, I'm still a working man, so we will take the drive north to Sunday River this afternoon. I will get nothing done trainwise, but I will take a train magazine or two along to read after the lifts close and my legs turn to rubber.

Congrats on the retiring! Head north up to Vermont, there is some great railfaning in that state that I can't wait to get back to when I move back home in a few years. While you are envious of my railfaning, I'm envious of your skiing! And going to the Big E for the Springfield show every winter...ah two more years.....

I'm pondering going over to the LHS to pick up a Rapido GMD-1 in CN green and yellow. I saw some running at a club open house and been in love with them ever since. Methinks pondering will turn into a trip. Those things are gorgeous.

MisterBeasley - If you follow Jim's suggestion to go up to Vermont, take the extra miles up to Montreal - you can get a gander at the railway museum here.

Headed to Pittsburgh to go to the hobby shop where my love of n scale began. Hoping the owner can help me either with decoder wire size ring terminals, or some other answer to grounding a wire to cast metal in the tender of my Athearn 2-8-0.

I soldered feeders to all rail left to lay on the new section and the rolling mill spur.

I also finished detailing an old Penn Line baggage car that will be a Southern-inspired radio receiver car for remote MU operations. Need a warm day to paint and some trucks to fit.

Working on an industry, but would like to match the silo height. the models pictured are 35 feet from the ground to the top edge of the roof. IMG_20141214_140505_228.jpg IMG_20141214_140549_338.jpg Screenshot (91).png Screenshot (90).png

    Any thoughts?

    Yes and no.

PVC pipe....if you can find the right width. Downside the bottom of your silo won't have the sheet metal panels that give these the distinctive look. You could put a fence and weeds in front of the bottoms.

I know not the best the answer or the one you are looking for.

Otherwise you are stuck with purchasing more kits and kit bashing to get what you want.

Light bulb! If you aren't going to see the backside of these silo's ....you know what's coming right....cut off the back side and add to the front. Kit bash the original kit. PVC pipe in behind to support the silo.

Hi Rick, Thanks for your thoughts. I was looking more for yea or nae on if the models capture the height of the prototype. I have a few responses from other groups that 35' looks right, so that is what I will do.
