Another weekend is fast behind us, were you able to get done all that you set out to do on Friday? For the first time in a long time, I had a very productive weekend. With Galesburg only a week away, my modeling went into notch 8! The first item off the list was this years tribute locomotive, BNSF Heritage SD70 ACe #9370. I was able to get the final decals snugged down and shot a clear coat over the entire body set and re-assembled the unit. I next made a custom jewel case insert complete with a short history of Galesburg RR Days model train show and the Carl Sandburg College Foundation for student scholarships. Next I designed some NO Parking signs for the club's new four piece N-Trak yard. We designed the yard to be a staging and set up yard only and we want to make it clear to others that this is not a yard to set up your train, park it and walk away. I copied the style of a No Parking sign one would see on the street and added some humor to it. Saved as a standard PDF file, the club can print as many as they like. I next turned my attention for the artwork that will be placed in the area of the Burlington unit for a raffle style prize explaining who donated the locomotive, those involved and that the proceeds go to the scholarships. Before I knew it, the weekend was over. I still want to get my T-Trak modules worked on before I leave for Galesburg later in the week, I'll work on them during the evenings after work. All in all, a great weekend. So how about you? Did you have a productive weekend? Let us know, with pictures if you have them. This coming Friday the 21st, we'll be doing it all over again but I'll be posting either in a hotel room or trackside in Galesburg Illinois, hopefully with some pictures of the show. Until then... High Greens!
Just a bit of trainwork for me. I got the grub-and-ant stuff down on the lawn one day, and some fertilzer the next, and Saturday I went for a bike ride. It was so nice out that I didn't want to spend the day inside doing trains, so....I boxed up some freight cars and weathering powders and spent some time outside doing trains. Nothing terribly photogenic - the project is replacing plastic wheels with metal. I got 5 cars done completely, and I've removed the trucks, painted and weathered 5 more. I decided to keep the trackwork simple for the Railway Express depot and the tanning company - just a pair of sidings, and I might bring them back together at the end for ease of switching. There just isn't the space for the kind of multi-siding arrangement I'd like for the tannery. So, all I need is 1 turnout for the project, and I can start on the tannery buildings.
1. I got unpacked from Charleston. 2. I got all my track cleaned save for one stubborn turnout that needs some special attention. 3. I ordered a new, nearly noiseless air compressor and a new spray booth for myself (combined birthday/father's day present) 4. I played with my kids on the front lawn.
Finished a small Amtrak train. Here is a run by of it. Video is not that great.
Wow! Cool. CB&Q really did have the best paint scheme of any of the pre-BN merger roads. I really would love to design a Milwaukee Road scheme for a SD70Ace.
