Another weekend has slipped by, did you get everything you wanted to get done this weekend? No railroad modeling for me as I was out of town for the weekend attending a show for that other hobby, but as stated earlier, the model railroad schedule is about to kick into overdrive. So how about you? Did you get some track ballested, or structures built? Maybe a quick trip to the hobby shop brought about a new project? Did you attend any shows? Whatever you accomplished this past weekend, let us know. We'll come back and do it again on Friday, September 14th. Until then... High Greens!
Laid rail on the R/A Track (Middle) and the Yard 1 Track (Right) to the R/A - Yard 1 switch. Still need to lay more rail on the Main Track (Left) and beyond the R/A - Yard 1 switch. Despite the 20.5" curve on the Yard 1 Track, my longest cars won't negotiate that curve, but that was somewhat expected. My Athearn 89' Boxcars, Accurail autoracks are too big for the layout anyway, they will be packed soon. Unsure if my Atlas and Walthers 33k tank cars will make it or not.
Ball, beer, brats and ballast. Mission Accomplished. I also started detailing my F7 fleet. These are old, old Athearn BB engines, including one that used to be a rubber-band drive engine that's now neutered and runs as a sound-and-lights dummy. I was happy to see that the Walthers detail kit, which they had on closeout price some months back, contains enough parts for both an A and a B unit, so I'll be able to spruce up a B that I wasn't counting on. The details are window pieces, headlight lenses and lots of grabs, which all need holes drilled. Ugh. Still no Silflor static grass. I wish those Europeans would stop worrying about their debt crisis and get back to shipping static grass. First things first after all.
Worked up in the Train Attic in the mornings. Got some more wire pulled. Also, accomplished my goal and went around stripped the wire, rollled back the hots/neutrals, and tied all grounds together ready for rough-in inspection. Also, finished some wood blocking that the framing inspector will look for. Then in the afternoons I worked on some models. I got quite a few weathered with Polyscale and Bragden Chalks. Then oversprayed w/ Dullcote. Also painted the offset hopper I kitbashed with Westerfield ends. Here's a picture of it JUST before it went in to the spray booth for the base coat of black... it is now ready for decalling.
