I hope everyone had a great weekend and Easter Sunday. We actually hit 80 degrees here in East Central Illinois and it felt great!

I started my weekend off early Friday moring and driving up to Normal, IL to pick up an old Railfan friend. We drove up to Toluca IL and grabed some breakfast and noticed that the BNSF Transcon was very quiet. We took our time eating breakfast and drinking coffee then decided to go trackside. All the signals were red on the dual main but no trains. We then spotted a a train sitting idle on the west side of town so we figured we could at least get a few static shots. While we shot a few static shots, a west bound came through and the flood gates opened. We shot a lot of trains including the UP Katy heritage unit and a clean consist of GE Santa Fe War Bonnets. Our day ended in Galesburg before heading back home. Saturday was spent getting cleaning done and getting ready for Easter. I was able however to sneek in a bit of time for my Bridge T-Trak module. Sunday was Easter and it was spent in Springfield IL with family and was a nice refreshing and relaxing change of pace.

So how about you? Did you have a long weekend? Did you do anything rail related this past weekend? Let us know, with a image if you have one. We'll be back on Friday the 25th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a happy and safe week and...

    High Greens!

Well, it wasn't a long weekend for me, just the usual 2 days. Our daughter Annie drove down from Maine Friday night. We had beef tenderloins wrapped in bacon and grilled outside, rice pilaf and broccoli, plus 2 bottles of wine between the 3 of us. Saturday we had blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup and more bacon. Then, we all went for a nice bicycle ride in sunny 60-degree weather. We're all helmets-and-tight-black-shorts types, but man, am I out of shape!

I did get some modeling in, though. The Walthers tank car platform has a lot of parts for a small kit:

Pipes, couplings, end caps, railings, platforms.....This is taking forever and there are still parts on the sprues waiting to be painted and installed.

I glued down some track while waiting for paint to dry and glue to set before proceeding on the tank car platform, and even put in a couple of feeders.

And then, I took advantage of a free shipping offer from Trainworld and ordered myself a GG-1. It doesn't belong on my railroad now, but I foresee a bigger trainroom in the future, after I retire later this year. Then, it will have a proper home, catenary and all.

Well I installed three sound decoders and have an issue with one of them. In troubleshooting mode. Also finished installing my new digitrax system and took my old digitrax system and made it a booster. Not much else done.

Spent weekend out of town with in-laws, but I did get some planning accomplished.

My wife, who convinced me to switch to N scale, expressed interest in helping with scenery. While I had previously been modeling winter scenery, she wants to do fall foliage. Why not?

I'm still working on a track plan. I keep reverting to my HO habits... "that curve looks too sharp..." or "... I don't have enough space.for that..."

NMRA Mid Central Region Keystone Division Jamboree is next weekend at Robert Morris University, planning to attend and meet some friends there.

I did some more work on a couple of "what-if" locos - an FP45 and an SD45 - had CN decided to dabble with 20-cylinder engines.

You're making me very hungry. We should have a drooling smiley for these occasions (and others...);)
