The first weekend of August is in the books. How did you do?

Saturday was spent at the club model airplane field flying model planes, and spending time with family and friends. Angela and Jared came out to spend the day with me which was nice for a change. I got to speak with the volunteers at the Monticello Railroad Museum as they always come to our field for lunch (we have a great cook.) latter our club had a pot luck with BBQ ribs being the centerpiece. Sunday was the weekly trip to the grocery store but most of the day was spent relaxing.

So how about you? How did your weekend go? Let us know with a picture or two. We'll all come back here on Friday the 8th and do this all over again. Until then, have a happy and safe week and...

    High Greens!

I had a productive weekend, aside from yard sales Friday and shopping Saturday.

    * Placed roadbed at A&P Tea Co. / east leg of wye.
*Completed 50' NYC boxcar that had been sitting incomplete for at least 5 years with missing parts.
    *Repaired 3 hoppers.
*Lettered CC&CI 83624, 3 bay offset side hopper.
*Lettered LTLX 170584 40' MDC boxcar *Repaired an old Model Power Hopper, and converted to KD's. This was a 25 cent yard sale find.
*Repaired two Accurail boxcars.*Upgraded Bachmann C&NW stock car with KD's and Accurail trucks.
*Stripped two Tyco "aerodynamic, Wabash-inspred" cabooses and trimmed all hand rails off for a project.
*Strip and repainted two Atlas S4s.
*Modified rolling mill into background structure.
*Salvaged motor and axles from Athearn U28C I decided not to roster. Wanted more ALCO influence and less GE. Axles will replace defective Proto axles in the future.

It was another weekend of bridge building for me. I have most of the truss sections cut, and I've started the assembly of the girders into "components," which means "bigger girders." I painted the tie sections, running out of grimy black in the process. On the layout itself, I started restructuring the territory around the coal hopper loader, where I had to elevate the siding an inch to match up with the liftoff bridge, and I cut some foam to give the liftoff section some height so I can have a waterway beneath the bridge.

I spent the weekend struggling with my airbrushes during efforts to re-finish my rolling stock and locos. In the end, the Treasurer convinced me to try "spray cans" to do the painting. I was able to find a good ssortment of Krylon colours and finishes at our "Canadian Tire" store, including reasonable facimilies of two-tone greens ala BCRjust now I am about 50% complete in painting my Atlas GP 38. This pleases me a lot!
This week we are zipping south to the West Kootenays of BC for a mini - vacation, in Kettle Valley, country. I expect to capture a sock full of prototype pics. Hopefully the forest fire smoke will disipate somewhat and thereby enhance breathing and viewing for us both in our travels. :)
