Even building a layout is great fun, because you see your creation coming from the ground up. I know I had plenty of it with mine. For a time, both building and running trains ran parallel.

Enjoy the moment, because once it's done, it's done. Excluding minor improvements and detailing of course - it's never completely done!

But you will have the satisfaction of seeing the universe you created.

I enjoyed considerably when I was young and after making a nice carrier for myself. But I lost all of it in 2000.

There was a time when I did enjoy this aspect, but my beat up old arse frame isn't as nimble as it once was. One aspect of it I do like is coming up with better solutions than what I had doodling or in a cad program. Seeing the visual challenges appear makes me pause and assess for a bit slowing me down, but that's OK. I am determined to make this as reliable as possible so I can enjoy it as I age. The maintenance on things like expansion and turnout issues will continue to keep me busy as those will never go away.

Trust me, we are looking into that, specifically more modern MOW Fords and Chevys but many do not realize the licensing efforts it takes to make a simple station wagon or truck. I could spend an hour talking about this as I have been dealing with it for 25 years.

I hear you. And I get why companies like to control their brands through licensing. Its just that Brekina shouldn't continue to be the standard bearer for HO American cars in that time period, and while Athearn and Atlas have done some N scale in that period, I find most of the accurate cars and trucks I want to buy are off shapeways. Which has its own issues.
