Well we are back from the weekend. How did you do? Saturday: Went as planned. I was able to finish up the last two of the O scale cars for my buddy Brian. The above PS2-CD covered hopper is a brass 2-Rail Brian found at the big Springfield Massachusetts train show last winter. He got a good deal on it and found that the previous owner had the intention of painting it up in the colors of the CB&Q as the decals were included in the deal. Since the hopper was destined to come home in Central Illinois, I persuaded Brian to have it painted in the CB&Q scheme as seen here. Next up to finish is this Atlas caboose that Brian wanted to have done in his favorite road, The Bloomer Line. While the prototype doesn't have a caboose or shoving platform, if it did, I think it would look like this. Since the Bloomer scheme is derived from the post 1957 CB&Q Chinese Red and Gray scheme, I felt it appropriate to mimic the famous waycars of the same line. The road number, 1985, is the date the Bloomer line became operational and the script on the cupola states The Pride of Gibson City, which is the base of operations for the short line. I now only have one last N scale project in the shop before the big move. Sunday: was probably our last quiet Sunday until we move. Turned out Angela had a commitment she had to attend to so rather than go on the road trip I wanted to go on, I stayed home. I mainly worked on the Galesburg City Job by constructing the sheet steel loads that will go in the yard and on the flat cars. Not much to show at this point, just more of what I showed on Friday. So how about you? What did you get done around the shop and or layout? Let us know. We'll assemble once again on Friday the 12th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, work safe and as always... High Greens!
I put my new bottle of Neolube to work. Started painting/staining the side rods of my steam locomotive fleet. Man, this stuff is amazing. That's about all I was able to accomplish, as we had our Granddaughter Saturday -- she is my little shadow - so, I can't get much of anything done. Hope ya'll had a great weekend, Wolf
While the Santa Monica Freight Station is the basis of my scratch built freight station, but I am not building a board by board copy. Due to the Grandt Line windows that I am using, I am have to make it taller to compensate. I have decided to build the loading dock as a separate, solid base. There are six walls, and I have pictures of four of them. One wall is very short, at the end of the office. It is safe to say, in the four feet of this wall, that there is no window or door. Since the model is slightly smaller than the prototype (other than height), I removed one of windows of the office wall. I have placed all of the doors and the window on the longest wall, and the office end wall. From research, it seems like the station was either a two tone gray, or a solid gray in 1953. The freight dock was a dark brown. The only thing that I have not been able to find, is a picture of the end of the freight section. Some Pacific Electric and Southern Pacific stations have windows, others have freight doors, and a few ends had no openings. Part of me wants to put a freight door on the end.
Didn't get much done. We were at the beach in So. Carolina from Thursday until yesterday. Late yesterday when I got home, I did manage to cut some beams and assemble for one of the bridges I am building. Getting fresh seafood for 3 nights was worth staying out of the train room. But I'll be back at the layout this coming weekend.
Way too much going on that I didn't want to participate in meant I didn't get to do what I WANTED to participate in. Ah well, as Jim points out, there's another weekend coming...
Got the layout footprint accurately drawn up in Paint. Drew the passenger terminal at 'Mud Wall'. Have received finance approval to hire carpenter to do the shelving. I could do it myself but since it is in the living room it needs to be level and attractive. The grandson needed outdoor time so we went for a long walk / scootering in the rain. No city flats got done but we have time given that aproximate move in date is mid-July. Positive side of rain: Washing the pollen out of the air.
