Dan, if you can make it work, I'd make a provision for continuous running as it sounds like you do have a decent space (less than ideal, but not bad). What length of train would you like to run? Will you have several passenger stations for a San Juan or Shavano to be pulled by the K-28?

Of course, the shelf will improve your operating characteristics but at the expense of scenery....so you'll have potential there.

Personally, I feel that trains around 6 cars in length begin to feel long while less than that feels short...so I'd shoot for a siding length of at least 5'6". For my future DSP&P layout, I plan on a train length of 15 cars for coal drags (quadruple headed over Alpine).

Art, sounds like she'll sound good with either of those chips. It must be nice in this case that the diesel Tsumanis are cheaper than the steam Tsunamis...and the Loksound are pretty good as well.

    Michael,

You have exactly described what I plan. Regarding passenger service, I will have some, but the mix of cars I presently have won't make a San Juan or Shavano service yet. I spent the last several years acquiring rolling stock and locos, now the gears are switching and layout construction expenses will dominate. Even with handlaying the cost of rail and switch assemblies is expensive. Anyway, I have so many kits to build I can probably wait a bit longer for my fledgling passenger service.
