Well another summer is about over and now we enter September and with that the months that end in ber or Brrrrrr!

Saturday was spent at the soccer field but to my delight, our boys won the entire tournament with no loses. I got plenty of soccer action and sunburn that day. Sunday I spent working on my module project getting the "kits" ready for my buddys arriaval in a few weeks. Monday, I had planned on doing more of the same but my plans were hijacked into a trip to Springfield IL. At least the time was spent with family.

So how about you? What did you get done, this last long weekend before the furnace switches on? Let us know, with a picture or two if you have them. We're back on schedule now so on Friday the 5th, we'll do it all over again. Until then, have a happy and safe weekend and...

The long weekend was hot and sticky here in New England, so I spent a lot of it in the air conditioning in the trainroom. I started by adding power to the tracks on the liftoff section, and cutting some foam to form the river bank. With that much in place, I couldn't resist running a train across, even though there's nowhere to go on the other side.

The far side will be a maze of turnouts fanning out to the staging yard. It won't be on roadbed, so I painted part of it black and temporarily pinned down some of the trackwork. Sunday night, this train spent the night on the "other side of the river."

Sunday I found a Star Trek marathon, and sat down in front of that while I started assembly of the truss bridge superstructure that I've been putting off.

My last weekend of the summer break consisted of a few local family adventure type outings, especially since our new addition to our family is just two weeks old. With my two eldest wanting to play outside all day with their friends yesterday, I decided to get some work done on my layout. I got to ruff in my facia panels on my layout. [IMG]

Our Labour Day weekend weather was of the "stay inside" variety, so we did. But we finally started our layout (my first in N scale! (a modified WS Scenic Ridge project). Got the foam laid out as well as most of the road bed laid. It's an interesting process! I also got a bunch of painting as well as a little lettering done on rolling stock. This side-project seems to be especially slow and prolonged in coming together...

Made some progress on my Avrams project. 3 day weekend.. had hopes to get more done. But between football game and grilling all day Sunday, didn't get as much done. HOWEVER, I still managed to finish all the details on the roof of the main building as well as paint, weather, building, and glue-in the support wall at the loading dock. It's coming along. Next up are the wooden porches and starting the scenery.

What to my wondering eyes did appear . . .

Yeash - take a few months off to get the kitchen remodeled, add a member to Team Hoffman (Everett Drew born 6/8/14) and the next thing you know it's AUGUST for cripes sake. Oh well . . .

Spurred on by the amazing progress made by one Dave Foxx Esq. and ScottL's Cisco Bridge (with homage to Mark Dance as well)I got back into the train room this week. The trestle for Bufkin's Bayou wasn't sitting right (Too high on one side) so I did what any self respecting bayou engineer would do - I got out sue tools and excavated!

I also installed some painted and slightly weathered some timber retaining wall, which is now helping shape the channel.

Once the dredging of the channel was complete, then I began filling the grade with some Woodland Scenics Mold-a-scene I had left over (their version of Sculptamold):

The trestle bents now snuggle into their substrate. Once the Mold-a-Scene dries, I can state painting the basin.

And, what do you do when its Labor Day weekend, and you need carvable roadbed to match elevations between your existing yard and your new trestle? You make some out of foam! In this case black foam from a meat package (suitably washed):

    And gluing has commenced:

I "glued" my mountain together with Great Stuff on Saturday morning before we left town. Hope to do a little bit of carving on it before I head to work tomorrow morning. I'll have a weekend to myself in a couple weeks, I would like to have the mountain ready to go for a big scenery weekend.

For me modeling season has begun (a couple weeks ago actually) and this weekend was spent playing with glue. I have most of the track laid with a little left to go. I found that I am quickly running out of supplies. Time to hit the hobby shop!!!! Looking at a soldering party starting next weekend then I will change my focus from track to scenery. About time....
