....With the operations bug. Tonight, after all the turnouts have been wired and we can finally get trains running, I thought him how to make a train in the yard that would be set up for switching the industrys (We have 4), I showed him how to double back and pick up the caboose, how to not foul the mainline, how to break up a train into a order in witch it can be dropped off at the industrys.... Its not long now before he starts baggering my dad to build him a staging yard and to add another industry....
I'm "brainwashing" my 3-year-old grandson about the joys of model railroading and railfanning. He hasn't seen a real, live train yet but he's highly interested in the N scale layout I'm building. Trackage is down for only very short runs, but he's excited. I've shown him how to run the throttle and run hand-thrown turnouts, and he's becoming an expert. Whenever he come to our house he immediately runs to my office to see something new; he's really becoming a nag about getting track down permanently so we can run trains. I guess I'll have to concentrate only on track and to heck with everything else until trains are running. We're having a ball!
Just before the new year I took my 12 year old daughter with me to an operating session, mainly because I didn't want to leave her home alone. She put up a fight but ended up going. To get her involved I told her she could throw the switches for me. After awhile I had a car jump track, I handed her the throttle and went to fix the car. That was the last time I seen the throttle, and everyone ribbed me she ran the trains better than me. Now she goes fairly regularly and runs her own train!
