Just a little concerned about Atlas and Kato locomotive wheel flanges hitting the spikes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but code 55 track is .055” high, so the flange width should be less than .055” or it will hit the spikes.

I am in the process of building my layout with Atlas code 55 and was concerned about earlier Kato locos. I have many U30C, SD40 and GP50s AND they all are fine with clearance. Sometimes, although very rare, you may get a piece of flex that will have some spike ticking. ATLAS low profile plastic wheels are really inexpensive for rolling stock and I have had no problems at all although I think eventually and gradually I will go to metal wheels. The Atlas code 55 really does look very realistic and closest to scale.

    Watash,
    Thanks for the great info!

I ended up laying this almost verbatim except for a couple small changes...

I left out the caboose track for the time being, since I am short on turnouts and wanted to conserve them. I instead plan to service my cabooses at the turntable instead, since I have several empty stalls I can use.

I also am thinking about running the yard lead back out to the mainline, although not sure...

I'm thinking about adding some industries to switch off the first yard track. This would be a good reason to connect the yard lead directly to the mainline.

    What do you think?

    Thanks again,

    Ray
