I just found 2 of these cars, like them, and was not familiar with this company before. Are they still in business? These are special runs, are these cars made by a company like Atlas, or some other? I would like to replace the rapidos that came on the cars with new trucks/couplers. Are 70-ton or 100-ton trucks prototypical for these? Thanks for whatever info you can provide. Al
Hi Al I don't know anything about the hoppers you have, but JnJ Trains is still in business. They "acquired" a new owner a few years back. The JnJ website is JnJ Trains . JnJ has a number of interesting products from detail parts to custom passenger and freight cars to loco shells.
J-n-J used to do their own cars. Using Atlas blanks they came up with some nice models. By 2-bay Airslide I believe you mean the car with two banks (lengthwise) of 2 hoppers. If so I'm pretty sure the 100-ton truck is appropriate. I'm being picky in my description because I think the shorter car actually was a 2-bay (70-ton trucks). The cars had a divider lengthwise down the center of the car. So the car otherwise appearing to be a single was a two-bay and the two was a 4-bay.
Thanks for the follow-ups, Big Snooze and George. The car does have 2 banks lengthwise of 2 hoppers each, although the description on the box identifies it as a 50' 2-bay. Since the shorter Atlas 2-bays take 70-ton trucks, it makes sense that the larger 50' car would take 100-ton trucks. Thanks again! Al
