Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 - First Impressions.

This is, by no means, an in-depth review. At the time I wrote this, I had this version of Paint Shop Pro 8 for only about four days. These are really first impressions. I bought this version as an upgrade from version 7, which I had been using for nearly two years, and have been very happy with it.

In version 8, I have found no radical changes. However, related functions are now grouped together in a more logical maner. For example, the quick brightness and contrast control can be accessed from the same pull-down menu as the more manual operations for the same adjustments.

Adding text to an image has also changed for the better. In version 7, you had to back of what you did, if you changed your mind, then virtually start over. Version 8 allows you to play with such things as color, font, or size with simple clicks on the pull-down menus.

When setting up for printing, I found there to be more controls and some very useful presets, especially for many of the standard paper sizes.

When I installed Paint Shop Pro 8 a few days ago, I left version 7 in place, in case I wanted to switch between the two. So far, I have not found much need to do so. Overall, I liked version 7 very much, but I believe I am going to like this new version even better.

Though I am not very good with such programs, I happened to get version 8 for a free 30 day trial when I bought my new computer. Liked it very much. When my trial period ran out though, I went and purchased PSP7 as I was very acustomed to it from a copy I'd had installed on my old computer. From just the basic functions I use, I really couldn't tell too much difference and like em both equally well.

I have been using PSP ever since I got "computerised" :D IIRC the first version was PSP6. I purchased PSP7 Anniversary Edition at a good discount and am very happy with it. Unless version 8 offers radical changes, I will stay with 7.
