Awaiting the results of the test George is doing before adding any more strapping to his load. I tried one with the yellow thread I have on hand and it just doesn't seem to look right.

How wide are these straps in real life anyway?

We used 4" wide straps on flatbed loads. I am not sure if trains loads use the same or even wider. From pictures I've seen they look to be the 4" wide version.

    Richard....

The Heavy Duty Polyester 284Yard 1mm 150D thread should be here tomorrow...or Thursday. It is flat thread and it looks like it might work best. I will let you know. (y)

I used 4" yellow on the flat bed trucks with 2" white to stabilize. On the motorcycle and it's trailers. They were 1.5" black because they fold up nicely and the loads were much lighter. And for appearance.

In addition to my battles with pipe loads, I have done a few other things, most of which didn't go as planned.

I finished the decals on the arroWedge and it just needs a clear coat. Good with this one now I guess. It looked better after the decals were all dry......

Then I worked on weathering this gon. Still has a bit to go but it seems to be coming along okay. The pipe loads in the background go in the failed category. they looked good the day i did them but by the next morning had a super glue frost to them.

I got this thing put together and it needs some paint here and there. Guess it's okay.

I put the DCC board in this engine. I was able o program and run it but it's not right. Makes more noise tan before and even though it was a slow runner before, it's even slower now so I did something wrong but no idea. This one goes in the not good category.
    20240329_194918a.jpg

Then there is the coal hopper decal project. I completely screwed up applying the decals to one side. Screwed up enough a)that I'm not posting the picture and b) that I will have to order a whole new set if I want to continue so 10 bucks down the drain.

I might just take a break from the workbench this weekend............

And if the down side stuff in the previous post isn't enough, my new Rapido caboose.........

You can see it in the first picture but here's a close up after opening it
    20240403_121729.jpg

A little glue will fix it but really................

:( Yep, for ~$45 you'd think Rapido could do better than that. Aggravating.

It’s bad enough when one project goes bad but super frustrating when a few of them go bad.

Sounds like something didn't get aligned correctly?
When you're ready to try it again, take the screws out, remove the board and have a peak at the drive train.
Check to make sure the four bearing blocks are properly seated in the chassis and that the entire drivetrain is inline, flat and level and that the motor will spin so the flywheels don't touch the chassis.

If it's all good, set the other chassis half in place and make sure the eight little tabs of the black motor saddle are seated properly.
If they are you should be able to pick up the entire chassis without it falling apart.

Be sure that you seat the two black plastic washers in the front and rear of the chassis where the two screws go through.
Once the screws are tightened down, double check the drive train by turning the armature to make sure it's turning freely.

Chances are something is seated properly and the drivetrain is binding.
If you're still having issues with it, I'd be glad to take a look at it.

That flat wide thread does look a ton better! Now I have to go have a conversation with the CFO/Purchasing Department...........
