The year was 1943 and World War II was raging nearly everywhere and railroads were caught up in keeping the trains rolling with thousands of tons of military equipment, supplies and personnel not to speak of the civilian traffic. As Bugs Bunny once said in a cartoon as he jumped off of the back of a train, "Oops. I forgot that us civilians shouldn't be doin' any unnecessary travelin' these days."

Just in time for the Fourth of July, I have added pages from a 1943 NYC Time Table to my Railroads of Madison County web site http://madisonrails.railfan.net/

All of the general pages are there, but not all of the Time Tables. The amount of info is fantastic and the war-time theme runs throughout. The lead in photo that I use as a link is the 'Just a Piece of Cloth' page.

"Just a piece of cloth, that's all it is - until you put your soul into it and give it meaning."

Thanks to John Reehling (NYCSHS) for suppling the TIme Table for me to scan.

I hope that you enjoy the pages.

Thanks for that Roger. Too bad the Ninth Circus Court of San Francisco doesn't feel that way, eh? [IMG] [IMG]

Well, the Central did. Do you suppose the ones making the ruling can even remember '43?

Oh, well. Have a good Fourth!
