Anyone happen to know which Kadee coupler fits the Proto 2000 E-8 model (both pilot and rear)? Also, how does it attach - the model has some funny swing bracket at the rear. Thanks!
According to the Kadee HO Coupler Conversion List you can use the # 33 or # 453. If you need more ifor go th www.kadee.com, left side of page, scroll down to Company infor and click on E-Mail. I just discovered this sheet & can mail it to you if you wish. Kadee 453 & 454. The #453 was developed for LifeLikes's Proto E units. The #454 was developed for general applications on many locos & long passenger & freight cars. The swing bracket gives the coupler extended swing and allows the negotiation of 18" radius "S" curves, switches and crossovers with prototypical close coupling. The #453 kit includes front and rear brackets especially designed for the Proto 2000"E"units. It also includes couplers and draft gear boxes and a diaphragm adaptor plate that prevents the diaphragms from bypassing eact other and interlocking when two "E"units are coupled back to back. Hi jdcheng, For the pilot, I used a #58 small head coupler in its gearbox with the trip pin cut off. I just tapped the hole for a 2-56 screw. It looks really good and doesn't stick out too far. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I think the pilot is the freight pilot. It looks like this. With the #58, you may need to watch out for the other coupler's trip pin interfering with the pilot. If the other trip pin's high, there may be some problems. I don't plan on using the E-8 for switching though. For the rear, I tried fitting a #33 or #38 on top of the bracket arm. Again, I tapped the hole for a 2-56 screw. It's rubbing the bottom of the shell, so I'll have to tinker with it. I might just buy the #453 kit and use it for the rear. However, for the front, I highly recommend using the #58, unless it's too short for the pilot you're using, you're going to be doing a lot of switching, or you need the trip pin. Ian
