May I ask why remove the crank pin at all? The only way for the tire to come completely loose from the loco is if the crank pin falls out. You should just be able to slip the tire back on without removing anything. It will be captured by the rods if it comes loose from the rim.
You could be right. I followed Kato's instructions. Getting a finger onto one side of the TT was much easier with the rods out of the way. Tiny little fingers would help but mine are not. If it happens again a tool of some sort may be useful. Maybe a strip of balsa to hold one side of the tire. Ben
They will be here Sunday and will be expecting everything fixed and ready to run. Funny thing, they have no appreciation whatsoever for sound equipped locos. Don't even want to run them. They have more opportunity to hear the real thing and know the difference. Maybe I would save money if I got out into the real world more often. Ben
Still waiting for my kids to have kids. Actually my son came down last night and we ran some trains and did some switching. He said that it was nice to be able to see some stuff run. We spent a whole hour together; a rare event. Ben do they get an opportunity to operate the throttle?
One does. He has his own small N Scale layout and at age 10 is an old hand at running. The younger one is content to watch. Ben
Ben, I've been watching TT reports since the GS4 shipped. There's an increasing number of dismounts that has to go beyond user fault. I returned my 4449 and some test results to Schaumburg after discussing an electrical and a mechanical problem with Kato. I also asked Kato to consider a TT redesign, an optional no-TT driver and a program to replace the bad-TT drivers. I told them they could use mine for a guinea pig. They have not committed, but I'll keep TB posted when I hear back. As good as I feel Kato is being with GS4 issues (my experience), I'm sure I'll get some kind of response. Scott (Ben, what is the 'information' - Kato repair info - that you reference?)
Confounded TT's I couldn't agree... more with you. I would like to see an "Optional No-TT Driver", included as part of the packaging. Let us know what you hear.
Scott, its on this page. http://www.katousa.com/N/GS-4/maint/tire.html Keep us informed on the result of your TT inquiry to Kato. I'm interested, for sure. Ben
Envious as...Well...! Ben, My budget just went tilt with the purchase of my GS4 and Daylight train car set. My car heard about it and now wants more attention, the dryer is still out of commission and I just made a commitment to purchase a fellow MR's entire N Scale collection for $200.00. As he delivered a flat of buildings and more boxes of N scale train cars... both my car and dryer just set and glared at me. The collection was worth the purchae...believe me. For now, my SP collection will just have to wait...hrrrruuummmppphhh! Still smiling but jealous. You lucky guy! We will wait to see if your daughter can take time out of her busy schedule to shoot some pic's, so we can all share in the fun.
