Just received the 10 car Kato Daylight set and the car lighting kits and I can not figure out how to mount the assembly on the car chasis. Any help would be appreciated. The old Kato light kits were simple but this new version is very strange.
I was not aware that the new light kits were so much different. I thought they just replaced the light bulb with an LED and load resistor. Let us know if there is more that has changed.
I've put the new LED lighting kits in some of my Super Chief cars and they install the same way as the older ones. I haven't looked at my Daylight cars yet as I'm waiting to see what the new Rapido lighting kits are like and if they can be made to fit Kato cars.
Worked for me I put the light kits in the Amtrak cars that came in the starter set, and had no problems. I mean, of course, with G-scale fingers and Z-scale car bodies, there WILL be fiddling and dropped parts (DUH!), but other than "put the body down, bend over, slam your forehead INTO the workbench, fumble around o nthe carpeted floor for that DAMNED little piece of phosphor-bronze! until you find it, pick it up, put it back into the slot in the clear styrene AGAIN for the third time" and so on, and so forth, it wasn't too bad of a deal. My only real complaint is that the light doesn't exactly get evenly distributed throughout the car interior with a single low-voltage LED. Now, whether that's because of the plastic, the LED, or the DCC power supply, I don't really know. But what I DO know is that it DOES more-or-less resemble what the Crescent Limited looked like back in May of 2008 when Sandy & I rode it down to SC to handle the estate sale on my Dad's house. So that isn't TOO bad.
