Have a chance to get a New Kato SD40-2 for around $40-50. Is it worth it? I have heard some questionings about this line in the kato offerings. I have no experience with these locos at all so I will rely on your recommendations! Thanks.

Hello from Oz! I have about 10 Kato SD 40-2 loco's. In my opinion they are the best value for money around, all you have to do is solder the copper strips from the motor to the board and they run sweet as a nut. While you have the body off, have a look at the quality workmanship, you can not beat that beautiful motor. LUV Kato's, you bet I also have Proto, Atlas, Athearn Gen. Have a good one,
... if only every model had an excellent drive, excellent body details, excellent handrails... one day, i won't stop dreaming they are getting really close though.
