A lot of people really have no idea who is involved in ownership of US railroads. http://www.utu.org/worksite/detail_news.cfm?ArticleID=40480 Boxcab E50
That's interesting, Ken, though the article didn't indicate what percentage of KCS is held by Deutsche Bank. It looks like at least some of the large international banks and brokerage houses are viewing US Class-1s as a growth industry. It's sad, but I'm afraid it will take many years before the majority of our government's policy-makers realize this and start supporting balanced domestic infra-structure.
Back during the early 1990's, I spent a few moments looking at the debt behind what was BN at the time. Debts that would be maturing at that time, into the early 2000's. I was surprised by how much appeared to be still owed to European interests. Going back to the days of constructing GN, NP, etc. A lot of financing of our late 1800's railroad building was backed from Europe. I wonder how much is still there today? It might be a surprising picture! Boxcab E50
