Kiamichi GP7 705 and F7A road slug SL1 await a call to service in Kiamichi's yard in Hugo, OK, late 1990. Since then, the F7A has been retired & placed on display at the Frisco Depot Museum in Hugo, while 705 is still in service. Both are ex-KCS- 705 was 4154 (nee 154), while SL1 was 4055 (nee F7A 70). Both were part of a purchase of secondhand Kansas City Southern power in January 1990.

    Bob,

Excellent photograph I really like the looks of those locomotives.

Is this railroad still operative? I gather from your post it is located somewhere in Kansas

The Kiamichi is a 231.5-mile railroad that operates in southeastern Oklahoma, northeastern Texas and southwestern Arkansas. It owns what used to be the south end of the Frisco's Central Division- the Ardmore & Arkinda Sub from Lakeside, OK east to Hope, AR, and from Antlers, OK south to Paris, TX. Both lines intersect at Hugo, OK, which is the Kiamichi's main yard & shop complex. It swaps cars with UP at Durant, OK and Hope; with KCS at Ashdown, AR; and BNSF at Madill, OK (which it reaches from Lakeside to Madill, 23 miles, via trackage rights). It also operates the 4 miles of KCS track from Hope south to Anthony, AR, which used to be part of the original line of the Louisiana & Arkansas.

The line is now part of Rail America, as is neighboring shortlines Texas Northeastern and Dallas, Garland & Northeastern.

Thanks for the link, Jim! Unfortunately there are no motive power shots on this site, but I'm working on adding more of my own photos to my Yahoo! website. Also, with the acquisition of Statesrail properties (of which Kiamichi was one of those roads), there have been reports of Kyle RR GP35s (of Southern Pacific vintage) on KRR property. As soon as I can get settled in down in Sherman, TX, I'll make a run over to Hugo & see what I can scare up.
