    For immediate release:
The Augsburg & Concord Railroad is working on a rebuild program with the company's SD35's. Besides updating internal electrical and mechanical systems, the rebuilds will receive the installation of the wide nose cab, commonly referred to as the North American Safety Cab.

The addition of the safety cab came about because of damage received by one of the SD35's scheduled for rebuilding. A safety cab was obtained and initial studies look promising. And the crews of the ACRR suggest that the safety cab will be a great improvement over the standard cab.

These rebuilds will be designated as SD35m. The first rebuild is already in the shops and is due out before the end of January. The paint scheme has yet to be determined. Below is the artist's rendering of the completed rebuild.

This project came about with the discovery of an extra SD35 shell and extra SD70MAC cab. It appears that little modification will need to be done, other than removing the battery boxes from the walkway and fill in some area at the back of the cab. Some work with the handrails will also have to be done.

Pictures will be taken and progress reported.

Well, here are a couple of pictures of the SD35m. There's still more to do, front handrails need to be worked on, stabilizing the cab (it works itself a little off center), and details and paint are still to go, but here's the first step done:
