Ok fellas no laughing Among my many hobbies and skills, I dabble a little bit in counted cross-stitch. (Yeh, Yeh I'm looking for patterns for anything railroad related and havn't had too much luck. I was hoping the female members here might have some idea where to get them. I'm mainly looking for SP, SSW, DRGW or UP logos but would also like everything from ornaments featuring Santa on a loco to huge superdetailed steam scenes. Your help would be greatly appreciated Thanks John Barnhill Nor-Cal SP/UP Connection Foothill Rails PS. Fellas, if your other halves can help, that would be great! Thanks.
HEY JOHN DON'T WORRY ABOUT A SIDE HOBBY, I ALSO HAVE A SIDE HOBBY AND THAT IS QUILTING. THIS STUFF MAKES YOUR GRAY MATTER STIR A BIT FASTER. VERSILITY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME. HAVE FUN, DON
John: My wife does counted cross stitch when she has spare time. We recently found a computer software program at CompUSA called PC Stitch. It allows you to convert photo and graphics files into counted cross stitch patterns. Looks like a really nice program from what I have seen. Chris
My girlfriend and I make pillows filled with Balsam Fir . I grind all of the fir myself and cut out all of the fabric. - not with scissors but with an industrial type rotary cutter. Nothing wrong with those hobbies! Charlie
John, I think that's Great! As I'm sure you know, but others may not, Roosevelt (Rosie) Grier (sp?) of NFL fame has been a dedicated needlepointer and cross-stitcher for many years. So do not feel like the lone male, or ashamed in any way. My wife has been needlepointing for more than 50 years. She uses "Pattern Maker", a powerful program that creates needlepoint and cross-stitch patterns. You may already know of this program, but just in case ... it is marketed by HobbyWare, Inc., telephone (972) 562-5411, http://www.hobbyware.com She scans various photos, designs, etc. into PhotoDeluxe, though I'm sure any good graphics system would work. When she is satisfied with final image, she imports it into Pattern Maker which converts it to the final pattern. Pattern Maker also allows color modification at the stitch level to adapt to any thread colors that may be desired or on hand. Pattern Maker printed outputs include a detailed color-coded (or symbol coded) needlepoint pattern to any scale that you have defined, and a full list of symbols, colors, and thread codes and quantities using DMC thread products. I believe that Pattern Maker supports other thread products, but I have no experience with this. Enjoy, Hank [ 03 January 2002: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
Not to worry fellas, but I'm not really ashamed of my interest. In fact, it impresses the girls I date They like it when you actually MAKE something for them NSDash9 and Hank, thank you very much for the programs. I'll have to check em out and see what I find. John
Ok guys (and wives), post some of your works for us to see! This is the place where talent rules! I'd love to see RR themed stuff!
My wife does counted cross stitch, knitting, crocheting ect. I do cross stitching on plastic canvas and have several sizes of looms to make place mats, coffe coasters ect.
Who's laughin', John? As the only child of a very dedicated farmwife and career needlepoint Mom, I had the distinct pleasure of learning to embroider, a hobby I have continued for some 40 years now. I enjoy it, and it gives me one more diversion, along with ship modeling, chess, and the pike. I do a little cross-stitch, too-mostly sports logos-mostly for my son. (Although he swears he'll kill if I ever tell his friends his DAD did them!) I sew, too, and put on almost every scout patch sewed on in town, make a ton of camping equipment. All was a very good thing , 'cause I married a gal who , God bless her, wouldn't know how to thread a needle if it was life or death! NOW, if I could just get the optometrist to fit me with bifocals I could see with....!
