I caught several leasers on CSX in the matter of a couple of days, including ex-BN & UP units.

Here's one basking in the morning sun:

Any guesses on this unit's original owner?

Nice pics! I've been catching a lot of those HLCX units up here as well but none in Western colors. They contrast very nice!

    Harold,
The guessed unit its a EX CP unit! [IMG] Actually UP..... :D

Is it me or that "true Stealth unit" a old Family lines unit ?? It looks like it has remnants of the striping by the cab.. I may be wrong!

Nice work overall! Post some more!!!

There seems to be a lot of lease units active in the east. Definitely adds some variety! Keep catching 'em Harold [IMG]

I was interested to I did a quick net search on CEFX3110. The "block" above the rear lights is an SP trait, but the nose lights were the wrong configuration for that...here's what I found:

    It was built 1966 as SD40 SP8450

    Rebuilt 1981 as SD40R SP7384
(Was carrying Kodachrome paint in 1986, see pic from Espee.Railfan.net , The pic also shows the SP lights on the front.)

It was later rebuilt by Astholm, Canada to SD40-2 standards as CEFX3110 and presumably gained the Canadian style low nose light at that time.

    Cool.

I guess from these that CSX is still relying very heavily on leasers then, apparently far more so than some of the other class 1's? This was my impression from my railfanning trip back in 2000.

Both the SP and BN painted units are leasers on that second pic, the Tunnel Motor is stencilled CEFX on the cabside under the number.
