^^ He's got it right. Remove DC plug, insert DCC decoder. Basic control completed! Awsome companies like Soundtraxx and ESU and QSI make powerful reliable sound decoders in HO, and there are other brands too. I've found Tsunami has the stuff available to best fill my roster when $ allows. ESU and QSI also make excellent high end stuff. Local club guys we all have a mix of those 3. Tsunami has a big product line, check the site it's substantial! You can get a quick-plug in decoder or board replacement depending on the model you're looking to outfit. Best of luck!
Does just adding a decoder give you sound? Don't you need to wire a speaker, too, along with the decoder? Not all DCC ready engines have speakers?
Just had a look at the installation for a tsunami Decoder with sound, it is not as simple as plugging in, you need to install a synchronizing disc onto the drive wheel etc. Think I will just buy all my locos RTR with sound. Already eying off a Athearn Genesis GP38-2
Synchronizing disc onto a drive wheel? No. Plug in the decoder and fit a speaker. or, when available, Replace factory board with sound board and fit speaker. or, my favorite Get that nice Athearn, it'll cost the same to get the rtr and add tsunami as it will to get the new Genesis GP 38-2 with tsunami sound. And you'll save yourself some frustration.
You are right I now have 3 genesis locos I am considering purchasing with dcc and sound Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
After our pm FB exchanges earlier, Paul, I have been perusing your 'changing scale' threads, including this one. I will be interested to follow your foray into HO, and particularly interested to see how far you go over the 'ten locomotives' rule......
One can never have enough locomotives.................which is why I'm up to 60 or so (including one steamer).
I already have at least double the amount of locomotives needed to run my upcoming layout, but more are in the pipeline! At least extra locos mean you can ring the changes as fancy takes you.
It's a 2-10-0 Russian in Frisco lettering from Bachmann's Spectrum line. Gotta have something for steam fantrips, and the area I model is too light for anything bigger.
The steam locos on my layout were supposed to be for museum trains, but then I acquired a number of freight wagons......... So I can now run a steam era session when the mood takes.
You will never stay within your ten limit anyway, so cheat a little and don't count the two you already had in the total
Lol thanks guys for your support, so far with my sales I am able to fund the 4 new locomotives as well as the NCE powercab for the new layout
How difficult is it to convert the genesis bulbs to LED. Seems strange they use bulbs since N scale has been using LEDS since when I had hair which was a longtime time ago
