Lecture by Richard Orsi "Southern Pacific Railroad and the Development of the American West" on November 16th, Thursday, at Cal State East Bay, 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road, Concord, 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Oak Room. Dr. Orsi is Professor Emeritus of History. Tickets required/Five Dollars/925-602-6776. "The Southern Pacific Railroad, in the late 19th and early 20th Century, was the 'corporation that Californians loved to hate'. Dr. Orsi will present the results of research in first-hand documents disclosing the flaws in the traditional interpretation. The Southern Pacific's corporate self-interest actually led the company to work to settle the state, further the interests of its farmers and bussinesses, and develop modern, responsible environmental policies. Dr. Orsi recently published these findings in his book, Sunset Limited: The Southern Pacific Railroad and the Development of the American West."
