A couple of my favorites from up north: Pacific Great Eastern (PGE)(BC Rail predecessor): Prince George Eventually! White Pass and Youkon RR: Wait Patiently and You'll Ride Almost forgot! Spokane, Portland and Seattle: Spit, Pop and Sputter [ 23. September 2002, 08:31: Message edited by: cthippo ]
you for got one for the B&O.. "Best & Oldest" which to all is partly true...Partly because, of the "Best" part, being its not the best railroad to everyone, and "Oldest" because it was the United States's first railroad!
A few that I have heard: Amtrak called Slamtrak Conrail called Comicrail-it was a big joke Guilford's Springfield Terminal Railway- ST the Sh..t Track Railway Delaware & Hudson called Defeated and Humbled CP Rail called Cluster Ph..ck Rail (phonetic spelling of the F word required)
One local railway around here (east of England) was the Midland & Great Northern, which was affectionately known as the "Muddle & Go Nowhere"
Nickname update: For the B&O, there were plenty of nicknames- my favorite was Beano. There are others: </font> Bad Order</font> Beans & Onions</font> Beans & Oats</font> Bad Order</font> Bum's Own</font> Best & Only</font> Beefsteak & Onions</font> As for British railroads, I know of three for the Great Western: </font> Great Way Round</font> God's Wonderful Railway</font> Gone With Regret (after nationalization)</font> Canadian Pacific: </font> Canuck Pacific</font> Cheapy Ragamuffins</font> Canadian Pathetic</font> Crazy Polack</font> And one more dig at BNSF: Been Nothing Since Frisco!
