With all the modeling talent we have here, I'm sure a lot of you, especially those with young children, have an "around the Christmas tree" setup. Let's see them. Since my wife and I are old and retired, we took the easy way out and bought another of those Kincaid trees that seem to permeate the holiday time. Santa rotates around the top and the trains do too, alternately clockwise and counterclockwise. Happy Holidays to all of you.
This is one from a couple of years ago. Its a Bmann On30 set and some of the cheap ceramic buildings from Wally World Eric
I'm in N scale, so a train under the tree isn't a good option, especially with young grandkids! So I put it IN the tree! An overall view: A closer view: The tree is artificial. I cut the wagonwheel support out of a piece of 1" blue foam painted brown. Glued the track down and added minimal ballast for appearance sake. It fits on the center pole between the upper and lower sections of the tree. The grandkids loved it! When removing it one year, I broke something on it, so the next year I didn't put it up. Boy, did I hear about that! Not only from the grandkids, but from the adults, too! The past year, I put a G scale shelf around my trainroom, about 14" from the ceiling. I had enough extra track to put a circle around the tree this year, but the track is 24" radius. A 48" loop just sticks out too far, so I abandoned that idea! But where there's a will, there's a way. Currently on it's way to my house is an On30 loco and two cars. I'll dig out some of my old HO track and see if I can get something going. I'm thinking I should mount the track on something to insure reliable operation (track on carpeting is NOT conducive to reliable operation!). Maybe an oval of plywood that comes apart in sections for storage. I'm open to suggestions! I don't know if I'll have enough time to design and build it for this year. If so, I'll be sure to post some pictures. Darrell, quiet...for now
Although I won't be setting it up this year, this is the Lionel layout that graced the plaform under the tree for many a Christmas in my home. NYW&B
Darrell, that's cool! NYW&B, why won't you be setting up that nice looking Lionel layout? :tb-confused:
The cats would KILL this if it was under the tree at home... so it had to come to work for the day of the holiday party. My train under the "tree" this year. haha!
See the Christmas tree in the park? The tracks all go around the park, therefore they go around the tree.
Wolfgang, it appears that you have expanded your layout far beyond just "around the tree" as I would do as well. Jeffrey, what is the steam locomotive you have on display in the park in your photo? :tb-biggrin:
That's an old Bachmann Spectrum PRR K4 (4-6-2). Here it is before the trees and fence went in. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q186/forum-1/P1010031-2.jpg
Glad I'm not alone! LOL That looks like one of Bachmann's tree kits. That's what originally inspired me to put one in my tree. I tried to find the Bachmann kit but they were always selling for waaaaay more than I wanted to pay! Wolfgang: Looks to me like you set up the trains on the floor, then stuck in a Christmas tree to justify the trains!! LOL Very neat! I don't think I could get away with that! Merry Christmas, everyone, and a safe and Happy New Year, too! Darrell, quiet...for now
