I was in the garage/trainroom just piddling around, so I decided to take some pics of my motive power. So I decided to start with the SOO. Here are some pics. First we will start with the GP 30's GP 40's U 30C's SD 40 and SD 40-2 I know this is not SOO,,, but still way cool.. Milwaukee Road GP 20's !!!!! I have more SOO power,, these are just what are on the rails now. One day will take all SOO locos along with the bandits and take a group pic. See ya'll laters. Wyatt
Nice. That's the largest assortment I can recall seeing posted here. When Wolfgang was with us, we used to see his "Dolly Sisters" now and then. Surely there are more SOO folks?
I have not made many Soo locos. But here is one. I tried to make a fairly accurate #802. Sorry- very old fuzzy photo.
Yep. And that little grill in the high position instead of low. I think that this is maybe called the phase 2 version of U30C. I think the Kato version was phase 3.
Great locos guys! I wish they would make the RS 27 in N scale!! I would be all over them!!! I would even put loksound in them.. Gotta love alco's!! I was reading up on the u boats on the SOO, the maintenance crews hated them. After taking those pics...I need my engine facility to be twice as big!! Once I get the GP 40'S from Atlas, and the -2's from IMRC I will sitting at 50 SOO locos!!!. Thanks for the posts guys!! Adios, Wyatt
Hi My SOO modelling efforts go back a bit, very early 1980's. I was mainly modelling CP Rail back then, but had to have a U-boat, just liked the scheme and didn't know the connection at the time. I visited Fond du Lac in 1980, and the U-30's were stored then. Here are some of my early modelling efforts. Firstly an F-7A that had a working beacon, an NW-2, my second attempt at an RS-27, and my Minitrix U-30C, with my first RS-27 just behind it, made from MRC parts. The later version was on an Atlas GP-30 chassis, hence the truck and handrails. Sorry about the old photos, and average scans Cheers Steve NZ .
Maybe there's something to that, because the U-boats weren't well liked on the Milwaukee Road, either, and GE always claimed it was because the railroad wasn't maintaining them properly.
Uh-oh... I think we need to appeal to Boxcab to take down those bandit units for us... They are really well done, but it's just too heartbreaking to see.
Sandro, nice looking fleet. Mike, that SOO caboose looks awesome, a bit like the 2 SOO cabs bought by the M&E. They joined former SOO RS-1 350, which has since gone to the Whippany Railway Museum. This RS-27 I picked up as a shell. Its builder wasn't totally satisfied with it, but it has some amazing detail work. I had considered making one of the Dolly Sisters out of it, but it has some nice grill work that was a Union Pacific modification. I have decided to eventually finish it as an MLW lease unit as used on BC Rail in the 70's. This is where at least 1 of the UP units ended up. Cheers Steve
Here is a unit that I am working on now,, Man the numbers are a pain,, all individual numbers. I know you can see the decal film, I need to get some Micro-sol to fix that. Adios, Wyatt
I love the Soo line, maybe some of you fans will enjoy this team of GP 38's seen recently in St. Paul
