Liberty Bell on tour! Leaving St Louis Mo Forrest Park on special car 11-21-1915 J. R. Eike Photo from my collection. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/kempland/glassplate.htm
Interesting!! Do you believe that they transported it out in the open and made stops along the way? Doing that today would require an everything proof car, a top secret route, no scheduled stops just crew and loco changes, and all other rail traffic being either stopped or rerouted, turnouts being spiked and/or welded in position, etc. Gary
Bell traveled to San Francisco for the Panama-Pacific Exposition Bell traveled to San Francisco for the Panama-Pacific Exposition. The Bell traveled over 10,000 miles on the San Francisco trip, stopping in many towns and cities along the way. Vibrant, patriotic crowds greeted the Bell waving flags, blowing whistles, with brass bands, and gun salutes.
I will agree that we sure could not see something like this today. Security-wise, but also so many towns no longer have tracks... Boxcab E50
