Interesting!! Do you believe that they transported it out in the open and made stops along the way? Doing that today would require an everything proof car, a top secret route, no scheduled stops just crew and loco changes, and all other rail traffic being either stopped or rerouted, turnouts being spiked and/or welded in position, etc. Gary

The Bell traveled over 10,000 miles on the San Francisco trip, stopping in many towns and cities along the way. Vibrant, patriotic crowds greeted the Bell waving flags, blowing whistles, with brass bands, and gun salutes.
